Trustees’ Annual Report and Accounts
Registered charity number 1200971 (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) For the period 12 August 2024 to 11 August 2025
Trustees’ Annual Report
Objectives and Activities
Summary of the purposes of the charity (as set out in its governing document): To assist in the treatment and care of sick infants, in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in Ukraine which are located in or close to active combat zones (in areas under Ukrainian control), by providing necessary medical devices and equipment.
Summary of the main activities for the public benefit: We purchase and deliver life-saving medical equipment and supplies to neonatal intensive care units (NICU, baby units) affected by the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. To raise funds, we share our mission and activities with NHS colleagues and friends, who generously contribute through donations.
Public benefit statement: The trustees confirm that they have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. They have ensured that the charity’s activities are conducted in line with this guidance and that the charity’s work continues to provide identifiable benefits to the public.
Achievements and Performance
Having previously delivered several thousand pounds’ worth of life-saving equipment to Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in Kharkiv and Mykolaiv, we maintain regular contact with colleagues there to jointly carry out needs assessments and plan our activity accordingly. Over the 2024–2025 period, we continued to monitor the situation in the NICUs we support and found their immediate equipment and supply needs to be adequately met. We therefore did not undertake major fundraising or equipment purchases during the year, and held financial reserves so the charity can respond promptly as new needs arise.
Financial Review
As of the end of the 2024–2025 reporting period, the charity’s financial position remains stable and secure. The charity has no outstanding debts or significant financial commitments that could impact its financial stability.
During the year the charity received £318 in donations and made no payments. The primary reason for holding reserves is to ensure that the charity can continue to support neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in Ukraine as their needs arise. The trustees maintain regular contact with NICUs in Ukraine to monitor their requirements; as new needs are identified, the reserves will be combined with future fundraising and allocated to purchasing supplies and equipment.
Remaining funds (reserves) at 11 August 2025: £729 .
Going concern: The trustees have identified no uncertainties about the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern. Based on ongoing monitoring of needs in Ukraine and the current financial position, the trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity will have adequate resources to continue operating for the foreseeable future.
Structure, Governance and Management
Type of governing document: Constitution of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation whose only voting members are its charity trustees.
How constituted: Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
Trustee selection methods (as per the charity Constitution): Every charity trustee must be a natural person. No individual may be appointed as a charity trustee if they are under the age of 16, or would automatically cease to hold office under the Constitution; and no one may act as a trustee until they have expressly acknowledged acceptance of the office. There must be at least two charity trustees; if the number falls below this the remaining trustee(s) may act only to call a meeting or appoint a new trustee. There is no maximum number. The first charity trustees were appointed as follows — Dr Yury Petrunin for 5 years and Dr Ekaterina Gritsay for 4 years. Apart from the first trustees, every trustee is appointed for a term of three years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees, having regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO.
