Aims and Objectives
Commencement of Activities
Walker and District began operating in early 2015, although charitable status was not granted until 9 November 2022. By that point, the organisation had already received a number of donations directed towards the relief of poverty in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Foodbank now operates its own dedicated bank account, into which all donations are paid directly.
Structure, Governance and Management Governing Document
The charity is governed by its governing document and is constituted as a charitable organisation. Walker and District Foodbank aims to relieve poverty through activities and events recommended and approved by the trustees. The trustees have identified and approved the following as the charity's principal aims and purposes:

The prevention or relief of poverty among individuals through effective, practical support.

The building of a godly community by identifying people's social and spiritual needs and facilitating ways to meet them.

Active engagement in ongoing, community-based charitable work that helps to raise responsible and wellrounded citizens.

Co-operation with churches and similar bodies for the relief of poverty and for other charitable purposes that benefit the wider community.

The advancement of education and charitable activities for the benefit of disadvantaged children and young people.
In planning its activities for the year, Walker and District Foodbank has given due consideration to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit, and in particular to the specific guidance relating to charities established for the relief of poverty. To further its wider public-benefit objectives, the charity has, during the year, engaged in a range of community activities designed to promote and empower people to lead sustainable lives. These have included:

Reaching out to homeless individuals, particularly the single homeless, and helping them to make a fresh start through support with securing privately rented accommodation, training and life skills.

Empowering unemployed people through advice and practical assistance, counselling, life-skills development and job-search support.

Supporting vulnerable members of the community through face-to-face sessions offering support, advice, counselling and, where appropriate, spiritual guidance.

Facilitating a multi-agency approach to the issues affecting vulnerable people by developing joint working arrangements with other established organisations, charities and local support groups.
Achievements During the Year Introduction
Walker and District Foodbank has achieved a great deal in tackling food insecurity across its community during the year. Over the period, the Foodbank distributed 6,569 emergency food parcels in response to referrals received.
The organisation has demonstrated steady growth in its operations, with parcel numbers rising from 6,069 in FY24/25 to 6,569 in the current financial year. This increase reflects both the rising demand within the community and the Foodbank's growing capacity to meet that need.

Aims and Objectives - continued
Key referral partners during the year included the Citizens Advice Bureau and the City of God Christian Centre, with around 30% of referrals originating from statutory agencies and approximately 29% from other churches. The Foodbank also responded to a wide range of underlying causes of food insecurity. The most common reasons for referral were the rising cost of essentials (63%), delays in benefit payments (9%) and priority debt (6%). Operationally, the Foodbank maintained a well-balanced stock system, with a combination of donations and purchases ensuring a consistent and reliable supply. Notably, around 590 clients accessed the Foodbank for support and financial advice.

Our mission at Walker and District Foodbank extends well beyond the simple provision of food parcels. We are committed to offering comprehensive support to people in crisis, empowering them to overcome their difficulties and to build sustainable, independent lives. Our strategic objectives are as follows:

Raising Awareness: Highlighting the realities of food poverty, together with its underlying causes and effects, in order to mobilise public support and drive lasting change.

Advocating for Change: Working with service providers to influence policies and practices that address the root causes of food poverty.

Ensuring Effective Governance: Maintaining robust governance, management and staffing arrangements to ensure the efficient delivery of our objectives.
During the 2024/25 financial year, we provided food parcels to 6,569 service users. In addition, our financial inclusion services delivered significant impact:

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 1 October 2025.
Responsibilities and Basis of Report
As the charity trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (“the 2006 Act”).
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent Examiner's Statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
-
the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

2.1. Basis of Preparation of Financial Statements
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)", Financial Reporting Standard 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" and the Companies Act 2006.
The charitable company is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
