Section C Objectives and activities
Forest of Selwood is set up to achieve the following charitable objects:

i. To promote the conservation of the natural and physical environment of the Forest of Selwood and its surroundings and to educate the public in its heritage.
ii. To advance the education and awareness of the Forest of Selwood community and the public in the principles of biodiversity conservation and sustainability.

The charity has offered a range of educational events, including a talk of hazel dormice, a farm walk led by species re-introduction expert Derek Gow, and an introduction to biodiversity net gain meeting for landowners.
The charity also submitted an unsuccessful bid for the DEFRA Landscape Recovery Scheme, working with local landowners.
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)
The land owned by the charity (Long Ham Meadow) has continued to be managed for biodiversity and conservation with help from local volunteers and a grant from Natural England. Surveys have continued to be undertaken. A bid has been made for a floodplain connection grant from Bristol Avon Rivers Trust.
The charity has been involved in a dormouse project funded by Natural England, which has involved working with land owners.
The Charity brings together a wide range of partner organisations involved in conservation work in the area, three times a year. This is to promote cooperation towards achieving the aims and objectives of FoS.
Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)
A local volunteer Warden is building a team volunteer to undertake conservation and educational activities at Long Ham Meadow.
To date these have included ecological surveys, camera monitoring of wildlife, and removal of invasive Himalayan Balsam.

The charity has strengthened relationships and built credibility with local landowners, and with aligned organisations such as The National Trust, Natural England, and the Environment Agency’s Heart of Wessex programme.
The charity is developing a strategic plan to develop the aims and objectives of the organisation.
The charity has started an ongoing process to strengthen governance to ensure the charity can continue to thrive in the future.

The charity has received two grants from Natural England for specific projects. Firstly for work at our Longham site and secondly for a dormouse project.

A loan has been made from a trustee, this was necessary to repay the original loan used to finance the purchase of the land.

In accordance with the engagement letter dated , and in order to assist you to fulfil your duties under the Companies Act 2006, we have compiled the financial statements of the company from the accounting records and information and explanations you have given to us.
This report is made to the directors in accordance with the terms of our engagement. Our work has been undertaken to prepare for approval by the directors the financial statements that we have been engaged to compile, to report to the directors that we have done so, and to state those matters that we have agreed to state to them in this report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the Company and the Company's directors for our work or for this report.
You have acknowledged on the balance sheet as at period ended 28 February 2024 your duty to ensure that the company has kept proper accounting records and to prepare financial statements that give a true and fair view under the Companies Act 2006. You consider that the company is exempt from the statutory requirement for an audit for the year.
We have not been instructed to carry out an audit of the financial statements. For this reason, we have not verified the accuracy or completeness of the accounting records or information and explanations you have given to us and we do not, therefore, express any opinion on the financial statements.

2. Additional Note to the accounts
The donations received includes £40,607 that is ring-fenced for the Longham Meadows project.
For the period ending 28 February 2024 the company was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.
The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006. The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.

Report to the trustees Charity Name Forest of Selwood On accounts for the 28 February 2024 Charity no 1200944 period ended (if any) Set out on pages 3 - 5 I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the period ended 28 February 2024. Responsibilities and As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the basis of report accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
