1. Structure, Governance and Management
DOJO is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) operating under its constitution. The trustees hold responsibility for the governance, compliance, and strategic oversight of the charity. They ensure that DOJO meets Charity Commission standards for small charities and that its activities are aligned with its stated charitable purposes.
2. Objectives and Activities
DOJO’s charitable purposes focus on:

advancing education and training in personal defence techniques;

improving understanding of assailant psychology;

encouraging responsible behaviour and increased personal awareness;

supporting improved community standards around violence prevention and interpersonal safety.

3. Achievements and Performance

Attempts to work with the local college have been unsuccessful, as they declined to offer DOJO’s training to their students unless the charity directly employs the trainer under their insurance requirements. This is not possible for the charity due to its structure and the fact that it can only accept donations rather than operate as an employer.
This barrier has prevented the charity from engaging with students as intended.
Despite these challenges, the charity has had notable success in its personal training work. Several students have reported real-world situations where the techniques learned through DOJO have kept them safe. Most notably several students said the training enabled them to deal with a situation where they believed a sexual assault would have occurred.

6. Plans for the Coming Year
During the next reporting period, the charity intends to:

further revise and expand scenario-based training;

approach the local council to discuss potential donations;

create a new website and updated promotional material;

approach local pubs & clubs to discuss their experiences and ways to improve safety.
