Trustees report for the period – 01/05/2023 to 30/04/2024
Objectives
The objectives of the charity remain unchanged. They are:
- To support schools in the Ashanti Region of Ghana to improve (where they exist)
toilet facilities and in building new ones where required.
- To support schools in Ghana with their work on hygiene and health issues
linked with the provision of toilets.
Committee meetings follow a three-monthly schedule, and the AGM is open to all members.
Charity Activities
In the reporting period trustees have launched a fundraising campaign. This entailed:
i. A crowd funding platform ii. Direct appeals to friends, family, ex-colleagues and other associates. iii. A fundraising dinner.
The fundraising campaign has been highly successful and L4L has generated sufficient funds to initiate the first project to build a toilet block for a school in Ejusu Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, Ghana.
To date, building plans have been drafted and consultation re: the plans and costings are ongoing with the school leadership team. We anticipate that the actual construction will begin in the next financial cycle. We will report on this progress accordingly in the next L4L report to the Charities Commission.
The Trustees together with the committee are confident that we will raise sufficient additional funds to complete the Ejisu toilet project and so ensuring that the children of the school have access to toilets – something that was not available prior to this charitable intervention.
Trustees have also begun discussions with a second school. These scoping discussions are at present broad but over time will become more focussed and specific.
