Murrow Community Facilities AGM

Chairman’s Report 2024

The past 12 months seem to have flown by, during which time the Murrow Community Facilities committee have been busy with running the village hall, managing the playing field and discussing exciting future plans for them both.

Christine Patrick has again successfully organised a number of events throughout the year. Though the quiz nights have been temporarily put on hold, the village hall bingo nights have remained successful. The annual Lego Event held in October was not as well attended as it was in 2023, however we believe the cost of living crisis has contributed to this. The next Lego event will be organised for early 2025. Christine organised another Christmas Treats Fayre which remained successful, with a good turnout from the local community.

I must also thank Maureen Woollard for organising the popular Fruit and Vegetable Show which was again a well attended success.

The hall has been booked for a number of parties and celebrations. Evening parties are still not being accepted due to a couple of bad experiences in the past, meaning that none of the current keyholders are willing to lock up after them. If anyone comes on the committee and is willing to lock up at the end of the booking then the decision can be reconsidered.

Christine Carr has made good progress with the merger of the Playing Field and Village Hall Committees, using a solicitor recommended by ACRE. We hope the merger will be completed in the coming year. The committee would like to thank Christine for her work on this.

There have been ongoing issues with the play equipment on the playing field. The manhole has been particularly troublesome to successfully rectify, as it seems very appealing to local vandals. This will be completely filled in in due course. The play equipment was inspected during the year and as a result, some items have had to, or will be, removed. This has led to complaints online, which the committee has taken on board. The committee are currently in the early stages of planning an overhaul of the playing field and its facilities. Murrow Street Pride are still litter picking the field regularly, for which we thank them. There has been a problem with dog fouling as in previous years, however there are now patrols being made and extra signs have been put in place.

There have been ongoing difficulties getting the decorating and floor repairs carried out throughout the year which isn’t helped by the poor condition of the roof tiles, which lead to water damage inside the hall. The committee are considering different options regarding the future of the hall. I must thank all those committee members who have taken the time to organise repairs throughout the year.

Finally, I would like to thank the committee for their hard work and dedication in keeping the playing field in order, and the village hall functioning.
