Chairman's Report

for the Year Ended 31 October 2024

Stella Hancock Driving Group had another very successful year and continues to thrive with increased driving sessions, membership and volunteers. Weekly driving sessions are at maximum attendance and participation in competitions and events is very high with great levels of success for our drivers.

Notable driver achievements included Gemma winning the showing class at Royal Windsor Horse Show with Teddie and Stacey placing 3rd and 4th respectively. The RDA National Championships in mid July resulted in Stacey T winning the intermediate class driving Mario and Olivia just behind her in 2nd place, skilfully driving Tooky around some tight obstacles. This result means that Stacey has now qualified as an open driver. The novice class was very large , but Gemma driving Mario came 3rd and Teddie 7th. A great result for both.

The Trec event at Bradbourne was very popular with Stacey A., Ali , Millie and Teddie successfully competing. At the end of July, RDA assessments took place with Maria, Olivia, Stacey T, Gemma, Stacey A, Sarah, Linda, Teddie and Lisa taking their level 2 proficiency awards and they all passed with flying colours. Paula gained her Grade 4 proficiency award which is a great achievement.

In August we held our annual BBQ and everyone thoroughly enjoyed drives around the lanes of Westcott. A great social event, much anticipated, for which we are hugely indebted to Dan and Jess.

In September, Jacki and Helen had a very interesting and enjoyable day at the CDSG coach training clinic in Stow. Jacki felt that she had gained hugely from the course and is excited to continue her training to be a coach. Some coaches also attended an interesting RDA training day at Bradbourne, and we held our own training day and a social meeting in October.

Our second great social event was the marvellous Christmas lunch at West Surrey Golf Club attended by almost all our wonderful group. Huge thanks go to Rosemary for organising it and Elspeth for helping her. Rosemary had invited a choir to sing Christmas carols and songs which we could join in too. Fiona and Helen gave out the annual awards, richly deserved, to Laura, Sarah, Paula for their achievements in driving and to Gaye, Clare, Dave, Jacki and Sally Wood for their contributions as volunteers for the group. Many congratulations to everyone.

None of this could happen without the dedication and commitment of everyone who comes to help in whatever way they feel they are able, at the group week after week and the courage and determination of our inspiring drivers to enjoy this wonderful sport of carriage driving. It is the combination of these two which keeps Stella's dream thriving.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Financial position and fundraising

The charity's financial position continues to be very healthy. This was enhanced by very generous donations totalling over £51,000 including £45,000 from the will of a former member, and a further £5,000 from the Ron Hancock trust. There were also donations from fund raising by Bisley Teas on the Rec, Normandy Women's Institute, Worplesdon Parish Council and the Fairwood helpers. These donations give us financial security for 5-10 years.

We spent some funds on new clubhouse locks and a new carriage. We will also use funds to undertake some repairs to the clubhouse in 2025.
