OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

The object of the CIO is the advancement of human rights (as set out in the universal declaration of human rights and subsequent united nations covenants, conventions and declarations), in particular the rights of Uyghur people and other Turkic groups in the Uyghur region of northwest china and such persons living in exile, by the following means: raising awareness of human rights issues commenting on proposed legislation related to human rights monitoring the abuses of the human rights conducting research into human rights issues promoting public support for the protection of human rights in furtherance of that object but not otherwise, the trustees shall have power to engage in political activity provided that the trustees are satisfied that the proposed activities will further the purposes of the charity to an extent justified by the resources committed and the activity is not the dominant means by which the charity carries out its objects.

Significant activities

Stop Uyghur Genocide is a UK-based grassroots campaign, led by Uyghur human rights activist Rahima Mahmut. We seek to bring together individuals and organisations to campaign for the human rights of Uyghurs.

We aim to build awareness in the UK of the crimes being committed against Uyghurs and other Turkic groups by the Chinese Regime. We would like to see UK society - from NGOs to faith groups to student societies - doing all we can to speak out against the infringement of Uyghur people’s human rights, and to challenge complicity. We work with communities, congregations and consumers to help people to come together to take action to protect Uyghurs and prevent genocide.

More information can be found on our website www.stopuyghurgenocide.uk.
