Achievements and Perforniance
Firstty. we established the infrastructure to
enable the Charrty to funth'on, this in itself
was a lengthy process.
on￿ funding was available the Charity
provided an updated InfOmiat￿n system for
palients in the waits'ng room. This provided
infomiation on a screen about seNices
offered at th8 surgèry and in the comrnunity
and general healthcare inf0m￿tI0Th.
Five blood pressure monitors were
purchased. These are available on loan to
patients who are required to take their blood
pressure at home regularty. They are then
returned at the end of Ihat period. This frees
up apFointment5 for other patients. This
proved very popular and the loaned-out
monitors a￿ bw'ng retumed in a timely
manner.
Tha next purchase made by the Surgery with
money donated by the Bell Surgery
Charitable Trust was of two reconditioned
wheelchairs. These a￿ for transportation of
patients if necessary to the Urgent Care Unit
in the hospital adjacent to the surgery.
The number of patients served ty the 8811
Surgery. and the resultant number of health
are profeSs￿nal$ using Ihe facilsties has
increasgd dramatically in recent years. In
addition to GPS, space has to be found for
Communty Phamiacists and the S¢xlal
Prescriber as well. As a result, there 16 a
serious shortage of spaGe for pat￿nt
consultstions. Patient's paper files
containing important heatth information
which has not been transferred to electronic
files must be kept and be availabbe
throughoul the lrfe of the patTrent. The files
took up a large amount of space in the staff
meetsng room. The Chanty paid for a strye
system for the files to be kept on
mezzanine fk)or. The roorn was then divided
into iwo parts, kaving a smaller meeting
room and an additional consultation room.
The cost of th8 buildiTrJ work and n8cessary
fumiture and equipment was met by the
Surgery.
Future Plans include fundraistng for a
monf(or for the lobby_ This is an expensive
Ple￿ of equipment which patients can use
independently during surgery hours to
measure their height. weight and blood
pressure.
