What is Big Local Gateshead?
We are a resident led charity established in the Teams area of Gateshead to help and support local people within the community. We would like people to be proud of where they come from and enable them to have the same opportunities as others in the area.
This year has been spent preparing for and moving into new premises as we move closer to finalising an Asset Transfer from Gateshead Council. Most of our remaining lottery funding f L l T t h i t ti thi L j t
Community work
We continue to build up our volunteer groups and are able to fund training where appropriate. Our Bike Club, Teams Wheelers, continues to attract new members with membership totaling more than 80 cyclists, mostly of pensionable age. Rides are tailored to cater for all ages and abilities.
During this period, we developed a Bike Shack and have plans to support training programmes for bike leadership and mechanic training.
Our weekly, Pop-up Shop - run by volunteers, continues to be very popular and attracts new residents every week - we plan to expand on this service in the future.
The Community Allotment has been updated with new pathways and raised beds improving wheelchair access. Various groups of all ages and abilities continue to meet there and benefit from this splendid community facility.
Doing more in the Teams!
We are moving forward with plans for an affordable Community Cafe and development of the front garden area into a usable and accessible space.
We also plan to continue working with the Tyne Derwent Way Project to consider new promotions and activities for the benefit of our residents and local people.
