## **1. Introduction** 

## **1.1 Charitable Objects** 

1) to promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment 

2) to advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement 

of the physical and natural environment in matters relating to climate and ecological changes 

## **1.2 Overview  (Executive Summary)** 

In our second year of operation we have made progress in all our areas of activity. To raise our public profile we have hosted several events and participated in many more. To disseminate information we have continued the rollout of our information leaflets and worked on revamping our website with professional help. We have made connections with other groups and organisations in the local area, and we have embarked on a number of long-term projects which will make a difference on the ground. 

## **2. Activities & Achievements** 

## **2.1 Outputs & Outcomes** 

## Events 

This year we opted for a scaled-down offering for Great Big Green Week, feeling that the effort put in last year did not yield the results we were looking for in terms of public engagement. Once again the event itself was a success but attendance was patchy. 

In March we organised and hosted a People’s Assembly for a large group of students visiting Weymouth from Kingston University. We had a good panel of experts for the students to feed from and the assembly was appreciated by all. 

We had a presence in one form or another at the Love Your Weymouth event, Weymouth College Environment Week, Summerfest at Redlands, a Park Community Centre public event and the Council for Nature demonstration at County Hall. We also conducted a talk for the local LETS group. 

## Information 

We continued the distribution of our leaflets at all the events above, created some new ones and installed a leaflet spinner at Top Club. We also engaged a website professional to help redesign our homemade website. 

## Hub 

Over the course of this year we have forged new connections with other local groups and organisations, and strengthened some existing relationships. We provided the use of our bank account for the Restore Nature Now coach to London and continue to do the same for the Friends of Weymouth Station, receiving the grants and repaying the expenses to this community project to install and maintain planting at the station. 

We have developed our relationship with the town council such that we now have an acknowledged presence on the CEE working group. 

In the early part of the year we explored the possibility of sharing a space with several other local groups at the “Triangle” in the Park District, although ultimately it was agreed the space wasn’t quite suitable. Towards the end of the year we entered into a partnership with The Circular Shop and Transition Towns Weymouth and Portland, to expand the offering at the shop into organic food, reusable paint, fresh produce and preloved clothing, and to improve the existing tool hire service.

## Projects 

_Climate Club_ is now an established listening circle taking place every Tuesday with a moderate but committed group of attendees. 

Our _SpeakEasy_ spoken word night has grown in popularity and has found a more natural home at Sticks and Bones gaming bar. 

We have received some funding to finance the initial stages of our _Signposting the Future_ project, which aims to create reuseable signposts addressing positive and negative possible futures. 

Our _Community Resilience_ project has made a start in finding out what state local emergency planning is in, with a view to initiating the creation of community emergency groups and plans. 

We have also made a foray into _climate engagement with children_ , having been invited to host a session at a local primary school. 

Unfortunately our Retrofit/Community Energy project has been put on hold indefinitely because there just aren't enough public funds to make a real difference. Our Growing Connections project has been slowed due to problems with allotment officers and rules but continues nonetheless. 

## **2.2 The Roles & Contributions of Volunteers** 

We are grateful for the many hours volunteers have spent helping to plan, organise and execute our events and activities. Without this valuable contribution of time, energy and expertise we would not have been able to achieve so much. 

## **2.3 How the Public Have Benefitted** 

Although our reach is still smaller than we’d like, nonetheless we have had a significant number of informative interactions with the public either in person or via printed or electronic means. Our regular listening circle provides a forum for relieving climate anxiety and discussing possible actions, and SpeakEasy has provided a safe, welcoming space for the public to share their written work. The Circular Shop project has introduced a small number of people to organic, vegan food and the circular economy. 

## **2.4 Looking Ahead** 

In the months ahead we hope to build on the work with the Circular Shop and take steps towards creating a large “Re-Use Centre”, in conjunction with other groups and the local councils. 

We aim to convert some of the positive energy at SpeakEasy and Climate Club into real-world action, and we hope to progress our Community Resilience project. 

Hopefully our new website will be ready soon and we can work on improving our online and social media presence. 

## **3. Financial Review** 

## **3.1 Financial Position** 

Leaving aside funds held for external projects, our income this year has been very small at just £244 with £610 in unreserved funds. Outgoings have also been quite low but more fundraising in the coming year would be prudent. 

## **3.2 Details of Any Funds Materially in Deficit** 

The Charity has no funds which are materially in deficit. 

## **3.3 Policy on Reserves** 

As our income and outgoings are very small, and as we have no overheads, the Trustees do not currently consider it necessary to have a reserves policy. However this stance will be reviewed

regularly to ensure there is a balance between holding sufficient contingency funds, and ensuring that donations and funding are spent in a timely manner on the objectives of the charity. 

## **3.4 Principal Sources of Funding** 

Tickets and donations. 

## **3.5 Remuneration of Trustees** 

All Trustees act in a voluntary capacity and receive no remuneration or other material benefits from their services to the Charity. 

Out-of-pocket expenses necessarily and reasonably incurred by Trustees in promoting the purposes of the Charity are reimbursed at cost.

## **5. Structure, Governance & Management** 

## **5.1 Type of Governing Document** 

Climate Resources and Guidance is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation using the Foundation Model. It is registered with the Charity Commission under number 1200700 and is governed by its Constitution, last updated in October 2022. 

## **5.2 Statutory Declaration** 

The Trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit in deciding what activities the charity should undertake. 

## **5.3 Trustee Selection Methods** 

There must be at least three charity trustees but there is no maximum number.

In accordance with the Constitution, Trustees are appointed or re-appointed for a term of three years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. 

In appointing Trustees due consideration is given to ensuring that the Trustees have, between them, the skills and experience necessary to manage the charity effectively and in accordance with charity law. 

Following appointment, new trustees are introduced to their role and provided with a copy of the Constitution, all applicable policies and procedures, and several guidance documents published by the Charity Commission. This ensures that new trustees are aware of the scope of their responsibilities under the Charities Act.
