DATE PALM EDUCATIONAL TRUST
Charity number: 1200681
Trustees’ Annual Report for the period 13 October 2022 to 31 December 2023
Objectives and activities (public benefit)
The charity’s object is the advancement of education for the public benefit. During this initial period the charity undertook preparatory steps only and carried out no charitable activities. The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance when planning the charity’s future work.
Explanation of inactivity in the period
The trustees resolved not to commence public fundraising or make grants until essential start-up controls were in place. In particular: (i) the CIO’s bank and payments facilities were still being onboarded and the trustees would not accept donations until lawful receipting and reconciliation were possible; (ii) key governance documents (financial - controls, conflicts of interest register, grant making/bursary policy, safeguarding and data protection procedures) were being finalised; and (iii) template agreements were - drafted to ensure that any future grants to non charitable delivery partners would be subject to robust restrictions, monitoring and clawback to protect the charity’s funds. Accordingly, the trustees considered it prudent and in the charity’s best interests to remain dormant for the period.
Achievements and performance
No charitable activities were undertaken during the period. The charity remained dormant.
Financial review
Total income: £0; Total expenditure: £0. The charity held no assets and no liabilities at the period end.
Reserves policy: As the charity had not commenced operations, no reserves were held. A reserves target will be adopted once operations commence.
