OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
Our charity's purposcs as set out in the objccts contsined in the constitution are as follows=
The proinotion for the public benefit of ethical standards of conduct by the UK media and press by..
cducating thc public on thc cthical standards of conduct and thc impact of uncthical conduct by thc mcdia
and press; and
providing information, advicc and assistancc to thosc who havc bccn affcctcd by a breach of cthical
standards of conducl.
We pursue these objects by:
Providing advice to victims of ￿Tongdo]ng in the press
Connecting vi¢tiins of wrongdoing with fiirther expertise and support, where appropriate
Educating the public about press standards
Educating studenrs on the importanue of high standards in the press
Bringing together experts and others working in the field of press standards, to increase shared
understanding of tlie issues faced by the publi¢ in respect of press wrongdoing
Significant activitie5
Educalion
The charity set up social media accounts, and began using them to spread the word about the charity's work
and services.
Universities were also contacted to otyer guest lectures on press standards, for the following year.
Fundraisin
and events
On 17th Oclober 2024 the cliarity had its first ￿ndraising and educational evenL hosted by Brown Rudnick.
The event was an opportunity to introduce professionals in the industries which work on press standards to
the work of the charity.
Victim liaison
The PJP had contact with 24 individuals seeking assisLqnce with cases of press wrongdoing in 2024.
All support is provided in confidence and the charity avoids dibclosing details, to reduce ihe risk of jigsaw
identitication.
A sample of five anonymised cases show the forms of support the PJP provides:
l. Intrusion over historic events. Advised on preemptive IPSO contact & media management.
2. Inaticuracy, intrusion. diseriminalion. possible libel. Advised on media engageinent, LPSO contact &
recommended legal advice.
3. InacLuraey; awaitin¥ outcome of relevant proceediiigs before takin¥ further.
4. Inaccuracy & intnL8ion inio grief. Advised on IPSO complaint & media engagement.

The PJP assists anyoiie affected by WTongdoing iii the press. Most beneficiaries are not well-kn0m￿, and are
thn]st iiito the media spotlight by eventq outside of their contml.
We also help students through lectures on press standards al wiiversilies a¢ross the UK.
Our events raise funds for the charity and indirectly help benefi¢iaries by creating a forum for professionals
operating in industiies which deal with the media to exchange ideas and advice to raise standards. We also
offer complimentary tickets to students and charities at risk of press misrepresentation.

The charity has made progress in a number of areas in 2024.
Operdlions and governance:
Jn mid-lale 2024 the website was redesigned lo increase public visibility of the Charity's services and
activities.
The cliarity also appointed Francesca Klug OBE lo the Board of Trustees, taking the total number of
Tnjstees to 6.
The PJP is commitred to the highest standards of governance. Despite being a relatively small organisation,
by the end ot 2024 the charity agreed policies in the following areas..

my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) {b) of

I have completcd my examination. I confirni that no matters have come to my attention in connection with

accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS
