## REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 31 MARCH 2024 

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the period ended 31 March 2024. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019) and relevant provisions of the Charities Act 2011. This is the first set of financial statements for the charity, with the period of 7 October 2022 to 31 March 2024 being agreed as appropriate in correspondence with the Charity Commission. 

## OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES 

## Objectves and aims 

The objectves and aims of the CIO are as follows 

5.1 to prevent and relieve poverty; 5.2 to promote human rights (as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent United Nations Conventions and Declarations) and equality and diversity and protection of the environment 5.3 to advance and promote education and knowledge of the law and how to use the law for the purpose of furthering objects 5.1 and 5.2 above. During the period in question these objectives have been pursued in particular by preparation of guides on use of the law to protect the environment and uphold human rights and relieve poverty, all of which are closely linked. Furthermore these objectives have been furthered by participation in events and talks with the same purpose; 

## Signifcant actvites 

One of the primary roles of the CIO is to support Action4justice Stichting, which itself carries on activities within the objectives of the CIO. The CIO has provided financial support to enable the Stichting to carry out these activities, including in relation to corporate accountability for environmental damage, action in relation to climate change, and action to promote clean fresh water and reduce the pollution thereof, and action to protect and defend those who themselves defend the environment and the human rights of their communities. Donations have been made to enable these activities to be pursued, and a fundraising quiz in conjunction with one of our legal partners, a city law firm, was held in November 2023 

## Public beneft 

The public benefit from the activities is by way of the promulgation of knowledge in terms of how to use the law to protect the environment and uphold human rights, including by way of the protection of those who themselves seek to protect the environment and uphold human rights, who may themselves be at risk in various ways

## ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE 

## Charitable actvites 

The achievements and performance, including by way of charitable activities, is as set out above 

## FINANCIAL REVIEW 

The CIO has limited income and is reliant on donations and fundraising events. A substantial event was held in early 2022, just prior to the incorporation of the CIO as such, and while Action4Justice UK support was still a CIC. This provided sufficient funds to operate the CIC/CIO for a significant period, giving its low level of expenditure. The Charity thus had at the beginning of the relevant period assets in terms  of bank balance of  £21,379.53 and no liabilities. A number of donations were received in addition to the proceeds of a fundraising event in November 2023. The trustees consider that the funds of the CIO are sufficient for it to keep operating for the next financial year ending 31 December 2024, and are optimistic that further significant funds can be raised during that period. The balance sheet and income and expenditure position can be seen from the accompanying financial statements for the period. 

## Financial Positon 

The CIO had funds at the year end of over £12,000,  approximately the same amount as the operating expenses for the 18 month period 

## Reserve Policy 

The Charity incurs small but relatively regular expenditure. Its income pattern however is uneven with no minimal regular income, and income principally derived from a small number of infrequent fundraising events. Accordingly the Trustees consider it prudent to maintain reserves, where financially possible, of up to 18 months’ anticipated expenditure 

## STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT 

## Governing document 

The charity is controlled by its governing document, Action4justice UK Support CIO Constitution dated  13 September 2022. It is constituted as a Charitable incorporated organisation.

In October 2022 the company’s application to convert from a CIC to a CIO and registered charity was successful.

## NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE PERIOD ENDING 31 MARCH 2024 

## 1. Accounting Policies 

## Basis of preparing the fnancial statements 

The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting  and  Reporting  by  Charities:  Statement  of  Recommended  Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1  January  2019)',  Financial  Reporting  Standard  102  'The  Financial  Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. 

## Fund accountng 

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. 

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity.  Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. 

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included, where applicable in the notes to the financial statements. However none of the company’s funds are restricted or were so during the relevant period 

## 2. Trustees’ Remuneration and benefits 

There were no trustees' remuneration or other benefits for the PERIOD ended 31 March 2024. 

## Trustees' expenses 

There were no trustees' expenses paid for the PERIOD ended 31 March 2024 2023.

5. Company limited by guarantee 

The company is limited by guarantee and therefore has no share capital. The liability of

the members upon winding up of the company is limited to £1. 

## 6. Payments and expenditure 

The expenses incurred in the relevant period were principally by way of grant to Action4justice Stichting to carry out activities falling  within the objectives of the Charity. Additionally a total of £1,135 of expenditure was incurred in the period by way of payments to the Charity’s administrator for administrative services
