REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 28[TH] FEBRUARY 2025

The Pillars of St Michael’s Betchworth ( the Pillars ) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and was registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales on 6[th] October 2022. The Registered Charity Number is 1200594. The structure of the organisation and significant information is set out below: -

The Charity Trustees who served during the year were: -

The trustees form the Committee of the Pillars.

OBJECTS AND POWERS

The objects of the Pillars are for the public benefit, the repair, maintenance, preservation, restoration, replacement, and improvement of the fabric of St. Michael’s Church, Betchworth and its churchyard, along with the monuments, fittings, fixtures, stained glass, furniture, ornaments, and chattels by making grants from the money collected to the St. Michael’s Betchworth Parochial Church Council (“the PCC”).

In furtherance of these objects but not otherwise, the trustees shall have power:

(1) to encourage people to become members of the pillars and pay the membership fee thereof;

(2) to raise money by any lawful means for the repair, maintenance, preservation, restoration, replacement and improvement of the fabric of St. Michael’s Church and its churchyard;

(3) to implement new ideas for community fundraising in support of the repair, maintenance, preservation, restoration, replacement and improvement of the fabric of St. Michael’s Church and its churchyard;

(4) to make grants from the money collected to the St. Michael’s Betchworth Parochial Church Council (“the PCC”) for the repair, maintenance, preservation, restoration, replacement and improvement of the fabric of St Michael’s Church and its churchyard following specific requests from the PCC Treasurer for assistance; and

(5) to collect and disseminate information and to raise awareness on all matters affecting these objects.

The Pillars will not raise money to fund any clergy costs or charitable giving by St. Michael’s Church .

The Pillars shall be independent of the PCC.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership of the Pillars shall be open to all who are interested in furthering the work of the Pillars and who have paid the membership fee as determined by the Committee.

Honorary members may be appointed at the discretion of the Committee. Honorary members shall not be entitled to vote.

Every member over the age of 18 years, apart from Honorary Members, shall have one vote at all meetings.

The third Annual General Meeting of the Pillars will be held on 26[th] April 2025 in St Michael’s Church.

REVIEW OF ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE FOR THE YEAR

The Pillars membership in the year generated subscription income of £1,375 (2024 £ 1,700) and received donations of £1,640 (2024 £4,748)

It also ran three successful fundraising events, a showing of the film Four Weddings and a Funeral raised a net profit of £3,554, a supper with entertainment from a magician in the village hall raised a net profit of £1,082, a Carol Concert at Betchworth House raised a net profit of £1,031 and we have incurred £53 of costs in relation to a 25/26 event.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

During the year, the Pillars received subscriptions from 37 (2024 47) members at the following subscription rates: Couples £40 – 23 Pillars (2024 :28 Pillars) Single £25 – 11 Pillars (2024 :16 Pillars) Corporate £60 – 3 Pillars (2024 :3 Pillars)

The Pillars awarded a Grant of £15,000 (2024 £5,000) to the St Michael’s Betchworth PCC fabric fund in the year.

FUTURE COMMITMENTS

There were no future commitments as at 28[th] February 2025.
