BATTERSEA CHORAL SOCIETY Registered Chartty No.. 1200589 ANNUAL REPORT For the year ended 31 August 2025 ObjeGts The Objects of the Sorxty are to advance, improve, develop and maintain public education in, arKI appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public events. Governance and Admlnlstratlon The Society operates under the tems of the Constitution it adopted in May 2022. tt is a charity registered with the Charities Commission. charity number 1200589. The principal address of the Society is 5 Emle Road, LorKlon SV120 OHH. The Souety is administered by a committee as defined in its Constitution. All the Committee roles are filled by members of the Society and all paid up members are eligible for any of the roles. All Committee members offer themselves for ￿eleCtIOn at the Annual General Meeting each year. The Committee members are the Trustees of the Chartty. No trLth is paid for his or her ro￿. Employees The Society has no employees. During the year end&d 31 August 2025 the Music Director and accompanist were retained in a freelan￿ capacty. Other mustcians are hired on an ad hoc basis as required. Publlc Benefft In planning our programme the Committee is mindful of the Society's obj'ects. Our aim is to perfomi a varied repertoire and to provide easy access at a reasonable price to our events and to membership of the Society. During the year the Society gave three concerts.. our traditional Christmas con￿rt. Verdi's Requiem and a summer concert of Mozarfs Vesperae Solonnes de Confessore and Haydn's Maria Theresa Mass. All three ¢on¢erts were held at our regular venue of Holy Trinity Church. Sloane Square. At our Christmas concert our chosen charity, Wandsworth mU￿c, hekl a retiring collection and we donated the net proceeds of that evening's bar to that chaiity. The Society val￿$ being open to all singers regardless of gender. ethnicrty or religion. Reduced subscription rate5 are offered for the under 30s and those who are in r￿lpt of beneffts. The Society does not fomially audrtion although our website ex￿aInS thal some experien￿ of choral singing is desirable. Potential new memters are invited to join a few trial rehearsals. The Society offers a scholarship for a young musician each year. This year we trialled a new scholarship for a young choral corKluctor and we were pleased to award it to Alice Habis, who started with us in the summer term 2024 and served for all three temis of the current year. Reserves Policy The Trustees consider it prudent that the Society should maintain reserves sufficient to cover the nomial experKSiture of the Society for one year or the cost of one con￿rt, whichever is the greater. As at 31 August 2025 we held reseNes of £26.510. Normal expenditure for the year was £23,280 and the cost of our most expensive concert was £20,375 (including the additional payment of £1,110 made to the orchestra which was fund￿1 by a donation). Financial Revlew The rec￿pts and payments account for the Society is set out on page 5 of this report. Income for the year Inon-concert and cOn￿rt combined) was £69.446 (2024.. £61,760) of which £2,220 {2024: £2,310) was in donations. All of the donati¢)ns re￿iVed during the year were speafically to enhance the amount paid to our or¢hestral players and were spent according to these tenns. Both the Society and the orchestral player5 are extremely gratefijl for such a kind dona'on. Subscnptions increased to £26,87712024: £24.075) as membership grew on the back of the investment in marketing last year and ts'cket sales were £25,343 (2024.. £21.4711. The S¢xiety beneffted from the receipt of GfftAid. which amounted to £4.649 (2024: £4.022).

Non concert expenditure was largely the same as last year at £23,280 {2024.' £22,681) refiecting a rnodest increase in music professional fees set off by a reduction in reheatsal s costs (the prior year had some costs from previous years included). cOn￿rt expenditure rose to £45,872 {2024.. £40,584) ￿llectirtg the large Ord￿straI and soloist forces required for the Verdi and the relatively large forces employed for the summer concert. As is normal, our Christmas concert was the only one to retum a surplus of £2,259. The Verdi concert made a kJSS of £9.553, despite selling out. and the summer MozartlHaydn GOn￿rt made a loss of £6,600. refflecting the harsh realty of putting on concerts of choral music. Overall the Society made a surplus of £294 {2024: deficit for the year of £1.485). As a resu￿, the reserves of the Society stand at £26,510 (2024'.£26,216), ￿presented by cash. The Swety prepares its accounts on a receipts and payments basis. as pemiitled under S133 of the Chafities Act 2011.
