Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of charity set out in governing document:

To advance the education of the public in general (and particularly the local community) about local history (particularly concerning farming, land drainage and military) mainly through the preservation and restoration of artefacts (and particularly “Buffalo LVT4” amphibious landing craft), and the provision of talks and tours for the public benefit.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects:

During the winter months we have continued with the restoration of the LVT4.

During summer months the LVT4 has been taken to Crowland and Thorney 1940s Weekend where members have put on an exhibition and spoken with members of the public telling them about our project and the history of the vehicle and the 1947 Floods in Crowland. The information stand and wooden replica LVT4 have also attended Moulton Chapel Tulip Parade, Malvern Militaria Show, Bovington Tank Festival and various 1940s weekends in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.

This year also saw us taking over the organising and running of the Crowland and Thorney 1940s weekend. We are working with a small sub-committee to present a well respected new event. This presents new opportunities for us to grow the association.

Achievements and performance:

Winter: Whilst undercover we have continued with the restoration of the vehicle. We have also built on and collated our stock of information relating to the vehicle and also to the Floods of 1947 and how it affected the local community.

Spring and Summer has been spent attending local events:

May 2024 – Moulton Chapel Parade and Glinton Village Fete.

June 2024 – Open Farm Weekend and Crowland and Thorney 1940s

July 2024 – Bovington Tank Fest

August 2024 – Ramsey 1940s

September 2024 – On Freedoms Wings Event, Classic Vehicle Road Run and Haddenham Steam Rally

Talks have also been given:

Norwich

Gedney Hill

Local U3A

Additional details of objectives and activities

We are grateful for the many hours volunteers have spent working on the LVT4 and also listening and speaking with members of the public. Without this valuable contribution of time, energy and expertise we would not have been able to achieve so much.

Financial review:

Our main sources of income this year has been from donations, fundraising at events and talks and from selling merchandise. Money raised goes towards the restoration of the the LVT4 and to the future set up of a museum.

Declaration:

The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.
