Objectives and activities
| Summary of the objectves of the charity set out in its governing document |
The Advancement of health and the saving of lives in Hartlepool and the surrounding area by: - a) The provision of Public Access Defbrillators (AED’s) in areas of suitable utlity b) Promotng awareness of AED’s and providing informaton and educaton pertaining to their safe and correct use. |
|---|---|
| Summary of the main actvites undertaken for the public beneft in relaton to these objectves |
In planning our actvites for the year, we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public beneft at our trustee meetngs. • Should cardiac arrest happen, bystander assistance with CPR along with speedy access to a defbrillator signifcantly increases a persons’ chance of survival, potentally doubling or tripling the survival rate. With public beneft in mind, our actvites centre around equality of access and awareness of CPR & AEDs for all in the area in which we work. Actvites undertaken during the course of the year. We have held six CPR and Defbrillator awareness sessions across the town engaging with a wide age range and include. • We arranged and managed a fve-hour CPR marathon incorporated into an emergency awareness day gave people the opportunity to get hands on with CPR and learn about the importance of defbrillators and how to use one. • Free events advertsed across the town where members of the public partcipated within their own comfort zone to beter understand how a bystander can help in the chain of survival. • Worked with the local further educaton college to raise awareness with staf and students at Freshers Fayre and dedicated CPR/ Defbrillator awareness days engaging with staf and students during Natonal Restart the Heart Day • Having been nominated as the Charity for this years Hartlepool Business awards we had the opportunity raise awareness with over 200 people about what we do and the beneft to the Hartlepool Community. With the contacts we made at this event we now have the opportunity to work with our local newspaper to further raise awareness within the community in 2026. • We have been invited on a number of occasions to be part of BBC Radio Tees breakfast slot which helps showcases the charity and it’s aims and therefore builds awareness. htps://ds43communitydefbrillators.org.uk/ |

Additional details of objectives and activities
By engaging with the public, being open and transparent the support we receive from the community drives our fundraising allowing us to continue our work. A key objective for any charity is to have the funds to continue. We are very much supported within our community and the Trustees spend a great deal of time driving support from within our local community.
Our communication with the public via our Facebook page, press articles, TV slots, our awareness sessions and generally making ourselves available to offer help and sign post individuals and groups, leads to the ongoing support we receive from our community. Some Examples
- The local business forum nominating us as their charity for their awards evening
o Local businesses and groups raising funds
o Families who have lost a loved one’s raising funds in their memory and donating to us.
o Support for our annual raffle
- The 11 people who did the Great North Run in 2025 for our charity and raised a fantastic amount
The list is endless but without them we wouldn’t be able to do what we do; we have a fantastic community which should be proud of as we are of them.
Achievements and performance
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year. |
Ensuring the defbrillators we place into the community are emergency ready as much as is humanly possible is a key aim and requires vigilant monitoring and maintenance. A key objectve for any charity is to have the funds to contnue our work which remains a key objectve for us. • We have placed an additonal 7 additonal AEDs into the community during the course of the year. This was achieved by engaging and working with both builders on new build sites and our local Council. This brings the total number of defbrillators placed into the community to 84. • 73 of the 84 defbrillators we have were deployed at least once during the course of the year with one of them being deployed at total of 16 tmes. • Over 700 people have atended free of charge CPR and Defbrillator awareness sessions during the year. • This year 11 of defbrillator bateries have been replaced along with 16 sets ofpads. |

-
As more defibrillators are placed, we recruit additional guardians and currently the number stands at 63
-
• Our guardians are regularly trained, they complete checks on their defibrillators monthly and after every deployment and are supported by 2 of our Trustees who have the role of Guardian and Circuit management.
Financial review
| Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves |
We are commited to maintaining the defbrillators for at least 10 years following their installaton, we know funds will be harder to raise as tme goes on and therefore intend to ensure that there is always a minimum of £38,000 in the bank which will underpin our ability to maintain all of the units installed. As more defbrillators are installed the fnancial reserve will need to increase. The charity funds are raised in the main via donatons, rafes andgrant applicatons. |
