Structure, Governance and Management
The Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) governed by a Constitution as approved for Baptist Churches. Members of the Church are accepted in accordance with the constitution, which requires them to have expressed their faith in Jesus Christ by way of believers’ baptism, or transferred from another church tradition.
The members Meeting normally takes place six times per year and has responsibility for the overall policy of the church. In accordance with the Constitution, the members appoint Trustees who are responsible for the day to day running of the church’s work and witness, and the financial and legal aspects of the charity. All members are encouraged to take an appropriate part in the spiritual and practical tasks involved in the furtherance of the charitable objectives.
Relevant matters may be submitted to the Church meeting by the Trustees for guidance or may be raised by members in the Church meeting for further consideration by the Trustees. Though the Constitution permits decisions to be made at Church meetings by appropriate majorities, the Church seeks to work by consensus wherever possible.
1
Objectives and Activities
The principal purpose of the charity is the advancement of the Christian faith according to the principles of the Baptist denomination to include the advancement of education, community service and such other general charitable purposes in such parts of the United Kingdom and the world as the Church shall determine.
To achieve the principal objective, which is set out above, the Church provides a variety of activities both to its membership and to the community generally. The aim is to show the love of Jesus Christ in both word and deed and to bring people into a closer relationship with Him as living Lord.
Achievements and Performance
Numbers attending worship services during the year has generally been encouraging; and there has been a small increase in membership. We were thrilled to have two baptisms in the year. ‘Life groups’ were strengthened, and we ran ‘The Alpha Course’ over an 11-week period, which was well received.
The Well ministry to those in need continued strongly through the year. This is where folk can ‘drop-in’ and receive a variety of support, including food and friendship, and some specialist signposting from time to time. Strategic work was undertaken to review and then plan for succession and continuity of the work as our long-standing volunteer Well manager, Liz Townson, retired from the role. We are grateful to her for the immense contribution and commitment, serving with skill and selflessness over a 25-year period. Her impact, together with the team of dedicated volunteers she had built up is enormous. We are delighted to affirm Liz’s ongoing work with the church, not least as a trustee.
Financial Review
We are grateful for the significant voluntary income received in the year, and this has enabled us to continue activities to a good standard. The incoming and outgoing resources are detailed in the accounts, together with a statement of assets held. During the year a new audio-visual system was installed, the significant cost being spread over a three-year period.
Reserves Policy
Trustees are mindful of the need to carry sufficient reserves to enable the church to function effectively and meet its obligations in the event of a decline in income or a major cost. The level of reserves is considered to be appropriate at this point in time.
Signed: Rev Mike Flynn (Chair of trustees) Date: 10 November 2025
