ST JOHN'S CHURCH PLUMSTEAD
REPORT OF THE PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023
-
1 The trustees' have pleasure in presenting their Report and the annual financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2023.
-
2 The Church registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 20th September 2022 and has registration number 1200407.
The charitable object of the Church is to promote in the ecclesiastical parish the whole mission of the Church. The Church is part of the Church of England within the Diocese of Southwark
3 Review of Activities
The Church continued to hold regular public services of Worship with our main meeting being at 10.30 each Sunday. These services are generally led by our vicar Rev Ajayi and include prayer, teaching from God's word and praising God through sung worship using a blend of contemporary and traditional songs. Children are taught the bible in age-appropriate Sunday School groups led by a dedicated team. The first Sunday each month takes the form of an All Age service where the whole congregation remains together to learn and worship.
St. John's church is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of everyone, and we strive to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all. We aim to be warm and welcoming church where everyone can flourish.
During the year we continued to hold a regular weekly safe hangout for children and youth - this is a service for children and young people from Year 5 and above. The service is open to all children and young people from our church who live nearby with games, music, and snacks. Great place to hang out after school, a safe and welcoming environment.
We continued to encourage and develop the musical talent of our young people through the Childrens Choir. This is a project designed for children and young adults in our parish and its environs. Young people engaged with the Youth Choir receive free weekly music tuition and sing in church at our All Age service on the first Sunday of every month.
Every Saturday between 11am-1pm, we held a ‘Warm’ drop-in Centre with Tea/Coffee, Cake, Board Games, Newspapers etc. Those who attended enjoyed taking a break, having a chat and enjoying some light refreshments!
The Church continued to offer a small Foodbank for the local community. St John’s Church Food Bank was open every Saturday between 11 and 12. This continued to provide support to the local community being open to everyone who needed support. The Foodbank provided non-perishable food items to help with the cost of living crisis.
St John's is blessed with many people keen to spread the love of Jesus to others and not just keep the good news to themselves.
