SeakAid is a Registered Charity 1200381

## **Introduction**

SeakAid is a registered charity, now operating in its second year, which was formed to facilitate the collection of used and unwanted sports kit donated from organisations, such as football clubs, who no longer had any use for them. These items of kit, football boots etc, are regularly replaced and updated by clubs and their members, so the old kit is no longer needed. Seakaid’s mission is to collect and sort these donated items and redistribute them to those who cannot afford the proper kit to play and compete in their chosen sport. In this way old kit has found a new home, and many young people are given a chance to get involved in sports from which they would otherwise have been excluded.

## **Our Second Year**

Our second year has again seen plenty of activity. SeakAid has once more exported large amounts of kit to the Island of St.Vincent and attended charity events in this country to raise awareness. We have received many donations of used and unwanted kit and actively found good homes for it.

It is quite easy to gain interest and support for our process, as the donation itself, the kit, is of no financial value, and we in turn do not make any charge to those we give it to.

Our operational and logistical cost have not lessened this year, as we have not been able to raise funds for the collection, sorting and distribution process. Fund raising has been hindered further by delays in opening our bank account. The first bank we approached mislead us into believing we met their criteria for opening an account suitable for a charity operating internationally, which after some lengthy delays they finally decided we did not. Fortunately, the second bank we approached, Lloyds, proved most helpful and we managed to get an account organised after not too much further delay.

Our Chairman, Craig Cordice, has continued to bare our financial burden by giving the charity interest free loans. Craig has not only generously supported us financially, but has done most of the administrative organisation, including the construction and maintenance of Seakaid’s website. On behalf of the Trustees I would once again like to thank Craig for his generosity both with his time and money.

Despite the continued efforts of some of the Trustees, fund raising to cover our costs has proved very challenging. The current financial environment has contributed to donation fatigue amongst the general public and institutions to the already overloaded charitable sector. We must continue to address our financial position and find new ways to raise funds for our charity.

## **Financial Report**

Very few financial donations have been received during this financial year and the functioning of the charity has again relied on the Trustees loans. This is most certainly not a tenable situation for the long term future of the charity, and it is essential that this is addressed if the charity is to thrive.

SeakAid has managed to open a bank account during this financial year after several setbacks. Our bank account was opened with Lloyds in June 2023, so we are now in a position to receive donations and grants directly into our account. Our account details are:-

**Bank:** Lloyds **Account No** : 70139060 **Sort Code** : 30-99-50

|**_(includes previous fnancial years setting up costs)_**
**Brief fnancial Breakdown - Running Totals up to Year end 31/3/24**|
|---|
|**Trustees loans to Seakaid**
**£5737**|
|**Expenditure - Bills and Expenses**
**£5726**|
|**Financial Donations**
**£83**|
|**Bank Account Balance**
**£94**|

As these figures show, the reliance on Trustees loans is disproportionate and although these loans are interest free and have no fixed term the charity should feel duty bound to make good on them.

## **Chairmans Notes**

This year, SeakAid has continued to make a tangible difference in the lives of the communities we serve, with a special focus on St. Vincent. Our efforts have been centred around promoting well-being and fostering community spirit by supporting local sports initiatives.

By supplying sports equipment and kits, we’ve helped ensure that local teams have the gear they need to participate fully and confidently in sports activities. These contributions go beyond the field, strengthening physical and mental health, building camaraderie, and inspiring the next generation to aim higher.

At SeakAid, we believe that sports have the power to unite and uplift, and we are proud to see our work empowering individuals and teams across St. Vincent. None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our donors and volunteers, who share our vision of making a lasting impact through the power of community and sport.

## **Conclusion**

This coming year the Trustees must once again decide on a strategy to raise financial funds for our charity. We now have a fully functional bank account and an open JustGiving page online, so this should make the process of donating pretty straightforward. I am very hopeful we can make good progress with our fund raising this year.
