**Camrose Baptist Church Trustees Report for year end 31 December 2023**

1

## **Aim and Objectives**

The principal purpose of Camrose Baptist Church is the advancement of the Christian faith according to the Baptist denomination.

The governing document of the church is the church constitution and the application of the bible in relation to all activities that we undertake as a church.

The Church may also advance education and carry out other charitable purposes in the United Kingdom and/or other parts of the world. The Church will normally promote, encourage, support and advance the work of the Baptist Union, the Association and BMS World Mission through prayer, through financial contributions and, where appropriate, by making personnel available from the membership of the Church. When it is able the Church will also support local Baptist and ecumenical gatherings.

## **Camrose Baptist Church Mission Statement is**

Camrose Baptist Church exists to glorify God reaching out to all people, making Christ known, changing lives through the knowledge and truth of the Gospel. Making disciples of Jesus by Teaching, Equipping and faithfully reproducing in others the character of Christ.

## **Summary of Activities**

The church supports a number of charities both locally and around the world through prayer covering and financial support, some organisations have also sent representatives in person to update the church about their work.

BMS World Mission, Baptist Home Mission

Mission for Life Ministries (Libera) London City Mission ,

FEBA Radio, Mission Aviation Fellowship Overseas Missionary Fellowship, South Asian Concern

Christian Blind Mission, Evangelical Alliance Edgware & District Churches , and Pathway

2

The church also has specific ministry areas like pastoral support for all who attend the church overseen by Pastor Robson Lopes and the deacons. House groups meeting weekly at the church building in Edgware on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday morning and Hemel Hempstead on a Thursday evening, Girls Brigade Wednesday evening at the church , Prayer Meetings twice a week on Monday via Zoom and Friday face to face at church, Sunday School and Teens groups on a Sunday morning.

On a Sunday morning, we have praise and worship followed by a sermon on a particular subject from the bible with a practical link as to how this should be applied to our daily lives and relationship with Jesus.

Camrose Baptist Church has not sought any guidance from the charity commission regarding its public benefit since becoming a registered charity.

## **Grant Making Policy**

The church distributes a proportion of its income to the previously mentioned organisations, these are not grants but gifts towards their work on an annual basis dependant on the churches level of income for that financial year.

Individuals can approach Pastor Robson Lopes if they are in financial hardship/difficulty and individuals may be offered support from the Fellowship fund (on a case-by-case basis) at the discretion of Pastor Robson Lopes and the deacons – Individual church members can request that some of the regular giving be allocated to the fellowship fund.

## **Financial Review**

We are thankful to God for the financial provisions provided to the congregation to support the ongoing work of Camrose Baptist Church in the UK and around the world and the income from the three rental properties 85 Vancouver Road ,16 Summit Close and 2 and 2a Fairfield Avenue.

The finances efficiently managed by the church treasurer who provides a monthly report detailing expenditure to the church leaders at our deacons meeting, and the church members are provided the same report at our quarterly members meeting.

The expenditure and accounts for the report cover the financial year 2023

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

3

Camrose Baptist Church is governed by its constitution, this governs the responsibilities of church member, how members meeting is to be conducted, what happens when carrying out the day-to-day business like the appointing of church trustees (deacons) and appointing of a minister.

The members of Camrose Baptist Church have the right to vote on any decision relating to the church. This takes place in a member’s meeting Members meetings are held every 3 months.

The church has is Annual General Meeting in March each financial year. The churches financial year end date is 31 December.

The deacons have overall responsibility for the day to day running of the church, but this is shared with volunteers who are part of various ministry teams for example worship, media, property (church building) catering, finance. The church would fail to function with these important ministry teams

Prior to deciding to register with Camrose Baptist Church with the charity commission, the church was registered with HMRC for employment purposes.

The members of church have the reserved authority under section 9.2 of the constitution to appoint and remove trustees and the minister.

The following trustees have been in office during the period covered in this report

Pastor Robson Lopes (Minister /chairperson) date appointed 12/10/2022 Charina Ocampo date appointed 01/01/2021

Vicky Mensah date appointed 01/01/2021

## **Appointment of Independent Examiner**

4

Camrose Baptist Church appointed

to independently examine the church’s financial accounts on 25 November 2024 as required by the charity commission of England and Wales for charities with an annual income of more than £25,000. The audited accounts are provided in addition to this report.

The trustees of Camrose Baptist would like it to be on record that they acknowledge the delay in submitting the audited accounts on time , this was due to problems beyond their control with the previous independent examiner.

## **Plans for the Future.**

Camrose Baptist Church seeks to further develop it’s the house groups and encourage everyone within our church family to find an area where they can serve the church and live for Jesus.

Camrose Baptist Church will be looking to continue to support organisations that work for the advancement of the Christian faith, who provide practical support for the relief of poverty, educational and spiritual assistance.
