Ummah Wahidah Foundation (UWF)
Annual Trustees’ Report For the Financial Period Ended 31.12.2024
Introduction
Ummah Wahidah Foundation (UWF) is a registered charity in England (Charity No. 1200343) dedicated to advancing the faith and religious practices of Islam worldwide, particularly in Kuloro, The Gambia. Our mission includes establishing and maintaining a school, providing education to the public, creating recreational facilities for social welfare, assisting those in need, and fostering racial and religious harmony.
Our Journey
Our work began in 2019 when we were made aware of the dire conditions of a madrasa in Kuloro, the Gambia. Urgent action was needed to renovate the existing structures and provide quality Islamic education.
In Summer 2020, our first fundraising campaign raised £5,000 via JustGiving, which allowed us to build four new classrooms, an office with storage facilities for staff, and new toilet facilities. The success of this initial phase inspired further expansion, and in response to growing demand, we constructed an additional four classrooms with £4,000 in donations.
Recognizing the struggles of orphaned students who could not afford school fees, we initiated a dedicated fundraiser to support them. Additionally, we launched an Iftar meal program to support vulnerable families during Ramadan. This grassroots effort evolved into Ummah Wahidah Foundation, which now actively supports education, community welfare, and essential infrastructure projects such as well construction.
A recent visit to the madrasa, accompanied by Imam Shakeel of Lewisham Mosque, reinforced our commitment to this cause. Witnessing the gratitude and eagerness of the students further motivated us to expand our efforts in providing sustainable support and educational opportunities in The Gambia.
Our Values
At UWF, our work is anchored in three core values:
-
Knowledge – Empowering future generations through education, inspired by Allah's command: "Read!"
-
• Community – Strengthening bonds and fostering unity to support those in need.
-
Prosperity – Enhancing the well-being of the less fortunate and enabling self-sufficiency.
These values drive our mission and define the impact we aim to achieve.
Key Activities and Achievements (2024)
Over the past financial year, UWF has successfully implemented several charitable activities:
-
Qurbani Distribution in The Gambia – A total of £140 was raised and distributed on 14 June 2024.
-
Zakah Distribution – £2,725 was distributed to those in need.
-
Kuloro Madrasah Roof Renovation – £1,913 funded for critical repairs.
-
Well Construction – £4,220 allocated to digging wells, providing access to clean drinking water.
-
Orphan Education Support – £4,109 used to cover school fees for orphaned students.
Each of these initiatives has contributed to the betterment of the local community, ensuring access to education, essential resources, and social welfare programs.

Fundraising for Ramadan 2025
As we look ahead, our mission remains focused on expanding our impact. UWF is launching an ambitious fundraising campaign for Ramadan 2025 to support ongoing and new projects. These include:
-
Further expansion of the madrasa to accommodate more students.
-
Continued financial support for orphans to ensure they receive an uninterrupted education.
-
Providing Iftar meals to struggling families during Ramadan.
Our approach is guided by our PICK principles— Prosperity, Inspiration, Community, and Knowledge —which set us apart as a charity deeply committed to sustainable change.
Reflections and Future Aspirations
What began as a local fundraising initiative has flourished into a dedicated charity impacting countless lives. Our recent visit to The Gambia reaffirmed the significance of our work. The joy and gratitude of the children who received even basic stationery were humbling reminders of the importance of our efforts.
UWF remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing Islamic education and social welfare. By investing in the next generation, we are fulfilling Allah’s command to seek and spread knowledge. We invite our supporters to continue this journey with us by contributing generously to our cause.
Acknowledgment
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our donors, volunteers, and supporters. Your unwavering generosity and commitment make it possible for us to create meaningful change.
Together, let us strive to build a brighter future for the Muslim ummah.
