The trustees present the annual report together with the financial statements of the tharity for the year ended
31 August 2024.

The charitv supplies iterns such ascandles and books to NHS maternitytrusts acros5the UK forthem to distribute
to grievln8 families that have lost babies from 6 weeks geststion to 28 days old, to help relieve their emotional
and mental suffering and distre55.
Fundr•tsing disclgsures
The money that the charity has received has comè from various fulldraislng eventslchallen8es hosted by the
charlty Itself, or by friends and family of the trustees.
The money recèNed by the charlty ha5 been spent on batches of candles, plaques and baby loss books. This
includes the packaglng of the candles and some postaÉe costs as WÉ11 as the insurance forthe charity.
Publlcbenefft
Having regard to the comrnissions public benef￿ guidance. we strongly feel that the charlty has been working
greatly in the public's benefit. We have received feedback from the majority of the hospitals to Say that the
items have been graciously received and hèveoffered comfortto thegrieving parents which have received them.
A number of hospitals have commented that they do not retsive suth Items froTn the NHS and therefore they
are tnuch needed, and that charities such as ourselve5 do excellent wo￿. A few have also commented on the
high standard of the item5 provided.
A few of the hospitals have held baby loss memorial events for parents whlch have105t bables and have asked
for candle5 to 8ive to the grteving parent5 at the events.
The trustees confirm that they have cotllplied wlth the requirements of section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to
have due regard to the public benefltguidance published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

I report in respect ol my examination of the Dedan John Foundation's accounts carried out under section 145
of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the appllcable D1￿ctionS given by the
Charity Commission under sertion 14515llbl of the Act.

I have completed my ex3mination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention In connection
with the examination giving me cause to believe that In any material respect:

Statement of Compllanct
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the second edltion of the Charities Statement
ol Recommended Practice issued in October 2019, the Financial Reporting Stsndard appllcable In the United
Kingdom and Republlc of I￿Sand IFRS 1021 and the Charities Act 2011.
Basis of preparation
Declan John Foundatlon meets the defSnltion of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. The accounts Iflnancial
statement51 have been prepared under the historical cost convention with Stems recognised at cost or
transaction value unless Otherwise stated in the relevant notelsl to these accounts.
Golng concern
The trustees con51der that there are no rnaterial uncertalnties about the charity's ability to continue as a going
concern.
Income and endowmehts
Voluntary income including donationsj gifts, legacies and grants that provide core fundlng or are of a general
nature is recognised when the charity has entitlement to the Income. it Is probable that the income will be
received and the amount can be measured with sufficient rellability-

Donation5 and legacies are recognised on a receivable basls when receipt Is probable and the amount can be
reliably measured.

Grant5 are recognised when the charity has an entitlement to the funds and any corkdition5 linked to the grants
have been met. Where performance conditions a￿ attached to the grant and are yet to be met, the income is
recognised as 3 liability and included on the balance sheet as deferred incorne to be released.
Expenditure
All expenditure 15 recognised once there 15 a le8al or constructive obligation to that expendlture. it is probable
seltlernent is required and the amount can be measured reliably. All costs are allocated to the applicable
expenditure heading that a88regate similar costs to that category. Where costs cannot be d1￿CtlY attributed to
partScular headings they have beon allocated on a basis conslstent with the use of resources, with centrèl staff
costs allocated on the basis of tlme spent, and depreciation thar8es allocated on the portion of the as5eVs use.
Other support costs are allocated based on the spread of staff Costs.

These are Costs incurred in attractin8 voluntary income, the management of investments and those Incurred in
trading actlvitles that raise lund5.
Support Eosts
Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to attlvlty cost categories on a basis consistent
wlth the use of resources, lor example, allocating property costs by floor areas, or per Capita, staff costs by the
tlme S￿nt and other costs bytheir usage.

The charity is considered to pass the tests set out in Paragraph I Schedule 6 of the finance Art 2010 and
therefore it meets the definition of a charitable company for UK corporation tsx purposes. Ac¢ordingly, the
charitv IS Potentially exernpt from taxation in respect of Income 01 capital 8ains received within categories
covered by Chapter3 Part Ilof the Corporation Tax Act2010 orSectSon 256 of theTaxation of Chargeable Gains
