## ANNUAL REPORT 1 April 2023 – 31 March 2024

Quire Voices (hereafter known as “the Society”) is a registered charity, no. 1200268.

It is not a registered company. It can be contacted at admin@quirevoices.org.uk and information about it can be obtained from its website at www.quirevoices.org.uk.

The Society’s objectives are set out in its governing document, known as the “Constitution”. This states that:

“The objects of the Society shall be: to advance, improve, develop and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the Trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public concerts and recitals.”

The following were the Society’s Trustees for part or all of the period 1 April 2023 – 31 March 2024:

|Chairman|Kirsty Bui|
|---|---|
|Hon. Secretary|Louise Roberts|
|Hon. Treasurer|Katrina Gray|
|Publicity, Marketing, and Design Officer|Emily Carmichael|
|Membership Secretary|James Goddard|
|Member without Portfolio|Peter Wood|

All trustees were members of the Society and gave their time voluntarily and received no remuneration or other benefits (save those benefits of membership afforded to every member of the Society).

In planning the Society’s activities for the year, the Trustees kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit at their committee meetings.

The focus of the Society’s activities remained to advance, improve, develop and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects. This benefits people of all ages by developing their music reading skills, training their voices, improving their breathing and breath control through the respiratory exercise performed whilst singing, and providing regular opportunities to socialize with like-minded individuals in a friendly environment. A total of 37 members attended for some or all of Society’s events this year.

The Society welcomed people of all ages regardless of their personal background, faith, gender, or personal circumstances. The Society currently have an audition process to ensure that it maintains the standard required for public performance, as its efforts lead towards putting on a number of concerts each year.

These are some of the other public benefits that were provided by Quire Voices:

- A standard membership rate that is lower than the cost of most adult education courses.

- Public access to choral concerts that were more affordable than those provided by commercial entertainment providers.

- Provided free concert tickets for accompanied under-16s to encourage them to take an interest in classical choral music.

- Enhanced the cultural richness of the borough by performing classical choral works.

In the furtherance of the Society’s objectives, there were rehearsals and performances for the following events with professional help from our Musical Director Sean Bui and a number of other professional musicians:
