Structure, Governance and Maintenance
CFCM-UK is a registered charity (1200111) governed by its constitution and registered on 18[th] August 2022.
The Charity’s governing body is the Board of Trustees which meets a minimum of two times per year and oversees the strategic direction and management of the Charity. The Chair of Trustees serves as the Administrator of the charity, taking managerial responsibility for the charity.
The 6 Foundation Trustees, who were in o�ice throughout this reporting period, were selected from people who have visited Children for Christ Ministry in Malawi and who share a desire to see its work maintained and expanded. They bring a mix of skills and backgrounds to the board. They will initially serve for 3 -5 years to establish staggered terms with subsequent 3 years, all subject to observing their responsibilities as laid out in the organisation’s governing instrument. The appointment of new trustees will be made by existing trustees.
All trustees were made aware of the Charity Commission’s guidance for trustees before committing to the role. The Chair of Trustees has attended some of the Charity Commission’s webinars for faith-based charities and has informed the rest of the trustees of anything of relevance.
Activities
CFCM-UK raises awareness, funds and prayer support within the UK to enable work being carried out to advance the Christian faith among children in Malawi. CFCM-UK receives reports (written, financial, verbal, photographic) from Malawian charity Children for Christ Ministry who are working to advance the Christian faith among children in Malawi. CFCM-UK shares the information with supporters in the UK using printed publicity material and a website. In addition CFCM-UK hosted the sta� of Children for Christ Ministry in September 2024 so that they could visit supporters and promote their work themselves. CFCM-UK transfers received funds to the Malawian charity according to an agreed budget.
In reviewing the overall aim and the objectives of CFCM-UK, and in exercising their powers and duties, the Trustees have had due regard for the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance. The activities of CFCM-UK, as well as the activities of Children for Christ Ministry in Malawi, are carried out to further its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
CFCM-UK has achieved a greater awareness of the work being conducted by Malawian partners Children for Christ Ministry through publications and website and a UK visit by sta� from Malawi. Donations to general funds in the reporting year were higher than the previous year.
During 2024, Children for Christ Ministry trained almost 1,000 Sunday school teachers and pastors during a total of 37 seminars covering every region of Malawi and including a 3-day training in Mozambique. These teacher training seminars are open to teachers and pastors from any denomination. A further 18 teachers were trained to be CFCM Volunteer Trainers in November 2024. This will allow for further expansion of the training programme through 2025. Children for Christ Ministry is moving closer towards its vision of having a trainer or trainers in each of the 28 districts of Malawi, and CFCM-UK has provided the resources for all these activities.
The latest survey of Children for Christ Ministry Bible clubs was carried out in 2022. It reported 63 Bible clubs nationwide, with a total of almost 7,000 children attending each week. These clubs are open to children of any faith or no faith. A small number of children from these Bible clubs who have physical needs have been helped by Children for Christ Ministry during 2024 – by provision of clothes, food and school fees. The resources for these spiritual and material ministries have come through CFCM-UK.
CFCM-UK was instrumental in obtaining a grant from a UK trust fund for 11 members of the Children for Christ Ministry team to be trained by the Malawi’s Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, in conjunction with UNICEF, to become Safeguarding Case Managers. These 11 are now part of the child protection workforce in Malawi for the public benefit, covering some of the most remote areas.
CFCM-UK has achieved its objectives for this period: raised su�icient funds to enable Children for Christ Ministry to carry out their planned activities for 2024; obtained external support for Case Management training; kept UK supporters informed through publications and website; hosted a UK visit which gave CFCM sta� the opportunity to be involved in promotion as well as receiving training and experience that is not available in Malawi; reduced dependency on UK charity Zambesi Mission.
Financial Review
At the start of the reporting period, CFCM-UK had a balance of £9,832.07. Total income during the reporting period was £24,473.93, expenditure was £21,634.27. On 31[st] December 2024 CFCM-UK had a surplus of £12,671.73 of which £300 was restricted for Income Generating Schemes in Malawi. CFCM-UK carried over £12,371.73 of unrestricted funds to enable some growth in operations in 2025 and to finance a new vehicle for Children for Christ Ministry.
The principal source of funds is from individual supporters, churches and UK charity Zambesi Mission (ZM). The plan is to reduce ZM’s contribution year by year.
