Structure, Governance and Maintenance
CFCM-UK is a registered charity (1200111) governed by its constitution and registered on 18[th] August 2022.
The Charity’s governing body is the Board of Trustees which meets a minimum of two times per year and oversees the strategic direction and management of the Charity. The Chair of Trustees serves as the Administrator of the charity, taking managerial responsibility for the charity.
The 6 Foundation Trustees, who were in o�ice throughout this reporting period, were selected from people who have visited Children for Christ Ministry in Malawi and who share a desire to see its work maintained and expanded. They bring a mix of skills and backgrounds to the board. They will initially serve for 3 -5 years to establish staggered terms with subsequent 3 years, all subject to observing their responsibilities as laid out in the organisation’s governing instrument. The appointment of new trustees will be made by existing trustees.
All trustees were made aware of the Charity Commission’s guidance for trustees before committing to the role. The Chair of Trustees has attended some of the Charity Commission’s webinars for faith-based charities and has informed the rest of the trustees of anything of relevance.
Activities
CFCM-UK raises awareness, funds and prayer support within the UK to enable work being carried out to advance the Christian faith among children in Malawi. CFCM-UK receives reports (written, financial, verbal, photographic) from Malawian charity Children for Christ Ministry who are working to advance the Christian faith among children in Malawi. CFCM-UK shares the information with supporters in the UK using printed publicity material and a website. CFCM-UK transfers received funds to the Malawian charity according to an agreed budget.
In reviewing the overall aim and the objectives of CFCM-UK, and in exercising their powers and duties, the Trustees have had due regard for the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance. The activities of CFCM-UK, as well as the activities of Children for Christ Ministry in Malawi, are carried out to further its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
CFCM-UK has achieved a greater awareness of the work being conducted by Malawian partners Children for Christ Ministry through publications and website. Donations to general funds in the
needs in Malawi, where inflation was rampant during 2023.
During 2023, Children for Christ Ministry trained 723 Sunday school teachers during a total of 18 seminars covering every region of Malawi. This included the two inhabited islands in Lake Malawi, where Sunday school teacher training has never been received. The number of teachers who have attended the “Training of Trainers” course and are equipped to train others has risen to 38, though only 12 of them were actively involved in Children for Christ Ministry seminars during 2023. The latest survey of Children for Christ Ministry Bible clubs was carried out in 2022. It reported 63 Bible clubs nationwide, with a total of almost 7,000 children attending each week. CFCM-UK has been instrumental in providing the resources so that all these areas of ministry can take place.
Donations of money and children’s clothes were received by CFCM-UK in response to a special appeal following Cyclone Freddy in March 2023. Malawian Bible club children a�ected were helped with gifts of maize and clothing, and one displaced child-headed family were rehoused though donations to CFCM-UK.
The overall increase in support has allowed Children for Christ Ministry in Malawi to plan an expansion of its ministry in 2024 through mobilizing more of its volunteer trainers to increase the number of training seminars run.
CFCM-UK has achieved its objectives for this period: raised su�icient funds to enable Children for Christ Ministry to carry out their planned activities for 2023; established a Partnership Agreement with Children from Christ Ministry; developed a new system of reporting; created a new style publication; launched a website (www.cfcmuk.org); reduced dependency on UK charity Zambesi Mission.
Mission. It seeks to widen its support base so that Children for Christ Ministry can continue to expand. To this end, CFCM-UK plan to host the two sta� members of Children for Christ Ministry during 2024 and give them opportunities to help promote their ministry.
Financial Review
At the start of the reporting period, CFCM-UK had no funds. Total income during the reporting period was £23,837.55, expenditure was £14,405.48. On 31[st] December 2023 CFCM-UK had a surplus of £9,832.07 of which £1454 was restricted for Income Generating Schemes in Malawi. CFCM-UK carried over £8,378.07 of unrestricted funds to enable some growth in operations in 2024, to pay for the cost of a UK visit by Malawian partners, and to help finance a new vehicle for Children for Christ Ministry.
The principal source of funds is from individual supporters, churches and UK charity Zambesi Mission (ZM). The plan is to reduce ZM’s contribution year by year.
Relationship with related parties
Children for Christ Ministry was formerly funded by ZM, a charity which has multiple partner organisations in Malawi. ZM has supported the establishment of the dedicated charity, CFCM-
UK. 8nd has a partnership agreement with CFCM-UK. ZM makes yearly(lonations to CFCM-UK, and in return CFCM-UK shares financial information on how the tunding is being spent in M81awi. Additionally. ZM helps mobilize prayer support for the work of Children foi Christ Ministry. helps with the mailing of CFCM-UK publications and shares container space for stocks of stationary to be shipped to Malawi. Within Malawi, Zm's field team provides advice and support to Children for ChTlSt Ministry staff and during 2023 invited them to participate in sustainability and vocational training.
