## **Structure, governance and management** 

The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organization (CIO) association formed on 12 August 2022. 

## **Method of recruitment and appointment of trustees.** 

The trustees of the charity are appointed by the members at the AGM. 

## **The Charity’s objectives and activities** 

At NEC, our mission is to preserve the Spanish language and cultural traditions within the Spanishspeaking community of South Wales. We are committed to fostering linguistic and cultural continuity across generations. 

We offer Spanish language lessons for children aged 1 to 16, delivered by qualified native Spanishspeaking educators. Classes are held on Saturday mornings and focus on developing language proficiency, enhancing communication skills, and deepening cultural understanding. 

NEC is more than an educational institution—it is a vibrant hub where families come together to connect, share experiences, and celebrate their heritage. We support children in embracing their cultural roots and provide families with a strong sense of belonging within a dynamic Spanish-speaking community. 

In addition to our educational offerings, we organise regular social events that bring together families and friends, strengthening community bonds and enriching cultural life. 

## **Public Benefit Statement** 

In setting our objectives and planning our activities our Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit, and particularly the advancement of education. 

## **Achievements and Performance** 

Over the past year, NEC has continued to grow as a dynamic centre for language education and cultural enrichment within the Spanish-speaking community of South Wales. We are proud to highlight the following milestones: 

•  Sustained Participation: Our Saturday sessions consistently welcome approximately 80 children, reflecting strong engagement and ongoing commitment from families across the region. 

•  Academic Collaboration: We initiated a research partnership with Swansea University focused on bilingualism, contributing to the broader understanding of language development in multilingual environments. As part of this collaboration, NEC received a grant from Swansea University in support of our work—an important recognition of our educational mission and community impact. 

•  Creative Development: A dedicated theatre workshop was introduced for children, fostering selfexpression, confidence, and appreciation for the performing arts. 

•  Family and Educator Support: We delivered tailored workshops for parents and educators, equipping them with practical strategies to support bilingual learning both at home and in educational settings. 

•  Community Engagement: NEC hosted a variety of social events throughout the year, including a festive Christmas celebration, a vibrant summer concert, and a family-friendly picnic in the park— each designed to strengthen community ties and celebrate our shared heritage. 

These achievements reflect our ongoing dedication to nurturing language, culture, and community. We look forward to building on this progress in the year ahead.

Trustees provided professional services to the charity outside the scope of their trustee duties. These services were approved in accordance with the charity’s governing document.  No other trustees received any remuneration during this year.

## **Reserve policy** 

The charity’s free reserves at the end of year were £2,000. 

The reserve fund is established to provide financial stability and security to NEC, enabling it to continue its charitable activities even during periods of financial uncertainty or unforeseen expenses. 

The reserve fund may be utilized in cases of emergency expenses, such as unexpected operational costs, urgent repairs, or other unforeseen circumstances that threaten the continuity of NEC's operations. Reserve funds may also be accessed to bridge short-term funding gaps or to seize strategic opportunities that align with NEC's mission and goals.
