BILLINGSHURST MEN'S SHED
TRUSTEES REPORT 2024- 2025
The year has been dominated by our ef forts to get a second shed to
act as a wood and f inished jobs store.
Havin9 obtained the relevant permissions f rom both Parish and
District councils we f inally decided upon purchasin9 a log cabin style
garage, f or which we had agreed a grant the previous year. As the
garage had no f loor, we had to construct some piers to make a level
base. After delivery of the building we commenced its assembly.
followed by construction and waterproof in9 of the roof. We then
fabricated o f loor to make the building complete. Painting the
outside f ollowed. We then started painting the inside which is now
almost complete.
The next stages are to construct some racking inside. and to lay
some hardstanding outside our double doors.
Regarding membership numbers we retained the main body of the
members of the Shed. but a few did not renew, and a f ew new faces
joined us. on balance we were a handf ul down. A concerted ef f ort
may be needed in the next period to advertise and recruit more
members.
When we started we were given permission to stay on our site f or 5
years bef ore granting of a lease for us would be considered. We are
now 3 years into that period. and apart f rom a parking problem, now
thankf ully resolved, we can think of no reason why that lease should
not be granted.
We are still without a permanent Secretary in place, so eff orts must
continue to f ill this rol

Our f inances continue to be sound. and our operating model seems to
be successful. The donations f rom members have been unchanged
since we began so we retain the ability to raise them if it is deemed
necessary. In addition, we have a surplus of tools that we could Use
to create extra funds. We are of course always available to do
repairs and accept other tasks.
During the yeor we changed our electricity supplier to Octopus
energy. This proved to be a very worthwhile change and resulted in
our electricity expenditure almost halving.
We attended 3 outside events during the year. These were the
Billingshurst Christmas Fayre. the Billingshurst Showcase. in the
springtime and the Billingshurst Show. in mid-summer. All 3 of these
were prof itable and raised our prof ile locally.
Last year we disposed of a lot of scrap wood by of f ering it as
kindling. This was very worthwhile and we intend to repeat this
exercise again this winter.
There are a f ew things that need addressing regardin9 our
workshop. These are to replace our delaminating shuttering on
windows and doors and building a permanent step at the rear door of
the building. These jobs are to be attended too in the near f uture.
