Operation and achievements
Similar to the experience of all organisations seeking to tackle food poverty, 2025 has been a very challenging year. Food prices have remained at historically high levels. Cost of living challenges have meant that we now receive fewer individual food donations; this has resulted on our greater reliance on food purchases, this impacting on our financial position. However due to strong community support our financial position as set out above, remains healthy.
During the year we provided food and other support on 2238 occasions to households, over 200 by way of household deliveries to the most vulnerable. This translates in to support provided to individuals on 5000 occasions, 1434 0f these being children. A breakdown of the households are as follows 403 were singletons, 334 were two in the household, 318 were 3-4 in the household and 58 were 5 or more in the household. NB. This data was only gathered part way through the year, thus the shortfall for total numbers of households supported.
During the year we have also provided support to a neighbouring foodbank the Lighthouse Church Foodbank based in Fishersgate.
As in previous years in the run up to Christmas we will be providing clients with over 200 Christmas Dinners, alongside our regular food support.
We also were able to provide some support for the increase in domestic fuel costs. This we were able to provide with a link up with a partner charity The Adur East Lions.
We belong and are participating members of the Adur and Worthing Food Network. We are members of Community Works, this organisation works on behalf of Adur and Worthing Council to support charities, not-for-profit and community groups across Worthing and Adur.
Volunteers
At any one time we have up to twenty volunteers available, 15 in attendance on operating days They all give their time, energy and commitment for free. They are the beating heart of our charity and we thank all of them for their work and dedication.
Safeguarding
We have a safeguarding policy in place. There have been no safeguarding issues or concerns this year.
Conclusion
Although still operating under a challenging background of increasing demand. The Shoreham and Adur Community Foodbank, has fully established itself as a valued and respected community based charity. We have a growing number of donor organisations, these include, supermarkets, business organisations, schools, charity organisations, social groups, individuals, families, churches and church organisations.
