Newtown South was Mlenlified in the 2021 census as having the highest deprivatson rate in On the 15th April 2023 an event wa$ held in a square on the Maesyrhandir estate providing games. danc8 arttl other fun actNities ftjr prim8ry school aged Children, supported by volunteers from the communlty and HoFe Church (Newtthvn), which was led and organised by their Child￿n'S pastor. As you would expect, the volunteers ulilised want through the DBS checking process. Free tea and cake was provided on tables for parents who could obs8Ne their children and the activities. Over 50 Ghlldren look part and over 30 adults attended. Parents welcomed the fre8 tea and cake. and th8 chlldren were all positNely engaged and ex¢ited. Other than the ￿ke the cost was c.£250. On the 10th Jun& 2023 an event called "Lads and Oad8" was organlsad for 13 schc4)Iboys and thelr dad8, rele￿ed to the charlty by local 8choo18, al a local outdoor activity centre rAlled R&J Rldge. As well as the actlvllies, sessions were held to support communication and relaknship building. The event was led by h¥0 volunteer8, a retired pollce officer and youth worker, and the current chaplain of a local sports club. On tr¢e 8th Juty 2023 the "Family Funta8tsd' event was again held on the grounds of Maesyrhandir CP School provldlng, for free, a rnix of fun and educational aCUvI￿O$, from Archery to fac8 paintlng, dance to an Infi8table, agerappropriate games, arts and craft, and live music from the stsge. CAP {Chri8Ians Against Povety) were 8180 on hand to offer courses on budgeJng and debt rellef advlce. Eight People slgned up to the CAP cours8. Thi8 year over 320 people from the Maesythandir communlty attended, an increase of 100 people compared to the Similar event in 2022. There ware over 90 voluntears from various local organlsatsons, indudlng th& local emergency 8eryic88 and the RRT charfty (who provtded a burger tent with free food and drink). The majohty of volunteers were from Hop8 Church Newtown. The cost lo the Hub of Hope was under budget al around £750. The feedback from the school famity li8ison officer al Maesyrhandir, who also lives on the estate, was very posltive, Staling that for many familie8 it would be the onty activity of th• 8ummer. From the 14th to the 18th of August 2023. the "Happy Holld8ys" event wa8 held again, thls year In a more compacl schedule held over on? working week rathèr than on days spread through the summer. The event volunteer team, provided by Hope Church Newlown, which was the vènue the week, was led by a head teacher of a tocal School wlth particular expertise wlh children with ALN. The cost was c. £2.Sk, in line with expectations. The event was $yn¢hronised with events provtded by l¢xal schools. The thildren We￿ given busy programme of fun and educational activities, Induding a visit from a bird of pw, Zumba, silent diso), pottery, Inflatable and more, plus a hot tsvo course lunch each day. Parents We￿ invited to attend on the final aftemoon to saa their children receiving awards. Each child received a certificate. The Hub of Hope ctharity kindly received a £1000 grant from Newtown & Llanllwchaiam Town Council for this actNity. "Project Backpack" was again held in Autumn 2023 prov¢ding 53 equipped backpacks for year 6 pupils transiloning to High School. The charity worked with local schools io help ensure those in need were able to be reciplents of this great initiative. The ￿$t, lust under £25C(l. was fvlly covered ty donations to the project, largely from members of hope Church Newlown. The Th)ats4KKds" project In Autumn 2023 donated 147 coats to families referred from local primary sthools, with the total cost of £3.54k (£24 per coal) met by the Hub of Hope charity.
