We are all parents of children attending the after-school club. and support its role as a charity and
value ils provision of affordable. high-quality childcare.
The club's focus on play creates and unique leaming environmenL distinct from school, and provides
important social opportunities for chiklren.
We place strong emphasis on affordability for parents and this is reflected in the competitive rates.
We are confident in the high standards of safety, allowing chiklren to explore appropriate risk in play
which give parents confidence in the quality of care. We take our safeguarding resFX)nsibilib"es
seriously, acting appropriately and seeking appropnate advice and suppose ￿eneVer required.
We are proud to offer the Real Living Wage lo all stsff, reccfjnising the fantasts"c work the team do in
conlribuling positively lo the provision.
We'd like lo offer particular thanks lo the experienced. knowledgeable. and child-centred manager,
who knows ea¢h ¢hild well and maintains strong stru¢ture$, values and standards.
Children report that they enjoy the freedom to play, the range of aclivrties, and time spent wlh friends,
speak warmly of staff, and feel confident that any wome$ are listened lo and addressed promptly in a
positive, child-friendly way.

Main purpose
Plasnewydd Out of School Club IPOOSCI has been in operab.on for over 30 years. The organisab.on
be¢ame a Charitable Incorporated organisab.on ICIOI in 2022.
POOSC'S purpose is lo facilrtate high qualty play opportun￿"e$ for children aged 4-11 ye8rs. 8nd
high quality, affordablè childcarè for parèntslcarws.
Our chartsble objectives are.. 'To provKle the necessary faCIl￿e$ for the daily care, recreation and
education of children out of school hours and lo advance the educat￿￿ and training of the persons in
the pr()vision of such care. e<Ju¢abon and re¢reab"onal tsulib"es."
It is important lo us that we ueale a welcoming environment and one where each Child who attends
our seth'ng, which is based in a local primary school (Roath Prakl feels safe, seen and heard.
In the academic year September 2024 to July 2025 (accounts cover the period September 2024 to
August 20251 we continued to prove after-scho(A childcare and play opportunib"e5 lor children from
local primary schools.
Both primary schoo15 have a high number of farnilies from Global Majonty Communitie5, and we
ensure our provision is welcoming and aece$$ible lo all." however, il should noted that our capaaty is
limited and we have a wailing list in operation for places MonLlay lo Thursday.
Stafflng
An addits'onal member of staff with a Level 3 in Playwork joined the POOSC staff team in October
2024.
In July 2025, one of our team re-applied lo ¢onlinue working as a Community Mentor with the Welsh
Government lo support Iheii work in making Wales an An￿RaCIst Nats'on by 2030. Their applicab'on
was successful.
The setting is fortunate to benefft from a diverse, skills staff team. Our staff members speak Arabic,
Romanian and Spanish in addition to English.

Our staff team understands the importance of repre3entatson and as such our toys and resources
are representslive of the community and the wider worfd we live in. We acknowledge and celebrate

opportunits'es lor us to talk about and explore other curtures and lailh.

Staff are happy tr) sharè their travèl èxperiences wth thè thildrèn and have brought items from
countries such as India, Iraq, Peru, Romania, St Luaa and of course Wales.
We include the use of incidental Welsh in the setting and indude activities that celebrate Welsh culture
- for example St tWnwen's Day in January and St David's day in Maich. Activities induded both craft
and cooking ath'vities.
Amongst the families and children, a range of languages are spoken- induding Italian, Tigrinya,
French. Urdu. Romanian, Spanish. Dutch. Nepali, Mandarin and Greek.

We have had a number of activities and visitors. induding the popular Animal Zone UK.

W& provide a daily heathy snack as part of the provision.

We had hyo safeguarding incidents during the year ￿1¢h ¥e dosed.
Communleatlons
Regular meets'ngs wrth the Boarfj and $taff team were held throughout the year. Polioe$ were
reviewed and our Ants'.Racist Policy for the setting was signed off by Trustees. We maintain a good
working relationship with the headteachers of both schools and other members of the staff team.

Incomè was Similar to 2024 with £42.503 $e¢ured through fee$. Expenditure was £46,297 l&aving a
resulting deficit of £3,794. Recognising the cost ol living crisis and the impact of fees raises on
parents. the Trustees made the decision to acrEpt a deficit in the financial year. This was enabled
by a healthy reserves pOs￿.0n.

We hold a minimum of £10.000 in free cash reserves. representing approximately one quarter of
tsper￿'ng costs. We have very low liabilits"es. 80 thls 1$ feft lo be an appropnate reserve.

POOSC is a CIO with a signèd con$b"tub"on. Tw$tees are sele¢ted through an open recruilmenl
process targeted at the school community. There is an induclion for new trustees and training IS
required.
The POOSC Board has 5 trustees including a Chair. Treasurer. Secretary and Safeguarding Officer.
The charity runs from Roath Park Primary School. Perwvain Road, Roath Park, Cardiff, CF24 4BB.
