Charity registration number: 1199710

Objectives and Activities

SORP reference
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 The prevention or relief of poverty or
financial hardship, particularly but not
exclusively in Calderdale, by providing
subsidised food and other essential items
to individuals in need.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
Building Bridges Food Hub is a registered
charity which aims to provide support to
local residents who have fallen on hard
times so that they may receive subsidised
shopping, providing them with dignity and
choice. The clients make a small but notable
contribution to the shopping and the
remainder is paid for by the charity. Clients
who are eligible to join pay a membership
fee. They can then choose up to 20 items
from a weekly updated list online and can
choose to pay online or with cash. Families
can order up to two baskets weekly. Clients
then book a collection slot and pick up their
shoppingeach Saturday.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 Each year our trustees review our
objectives and activities to ensure they
continue to reflect our aims. In carrying
out this review the trustees have
considered the Charity Commission’s
general guidance on public benefit and
believe we are compliant with both the
benefit aspect and that it is provided to
those in need without discrimination in
two localpostcodes.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 We continue to enrol new members as
well as looking after existing members - we
currently have 100 active members
registered to use our online social
supermarket. In August 2022 we averaged
10 baskets of shopping distributed to local
beneficiaries a week. In August 2023 this
had more than doubled to 23 baskets of
shopping per week! By August 2024 we
increased to averaging 31 baskets per
week. In the last year we have continued
to build our social media presence with
regular posts on Facebook and Instagram.
We have been successful in bidding for 2
grants in the last year and this has secured
the charity financially for the last 12
months, so any donations from individuals
have been accumulating. We continue to
receive gift aid which is used for any admin
costs. The physical work is done on an
entirely volunteer basis and we have no
employees.

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 Within the last year income for Building
Bridges Food Hub exceeds costs ,
predominantly because of grants received
in the year. On starting the food hub in
Sept 2022 we distributed 10 baskets per
week, by Aug 2023 this increased to 22
baskets per week on average and in August
2024 has again increased significantly to 31
baskets. An average basket of shopping
costs £18-£25 per week and members pay
£3 towards this so it costs the charity £15-
£22per basket. .
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 The reserves policy is to reserve 6 months
of running costs (From Dec 2024 the
charity has commenced paying £800 rent
and rates per month. The running costs for
6 months are £5000 rent and rates and
£15000 foodpurchases)
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 £20000
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 No funds held in deficit
Details of fund materially in
deficit
Para 1.24 We have regular donors and grants
income. If either of these were to
decrease we would decrease our activity
accordingly, but we have no concerns
currently about operating as a going
concern
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
