FINANCIAL CONTROLS
Financial matters have been administered by the treasurer, wth financial control exercised by
havin9 financllal transactions undertaken only by any of the following

Online banking is accessible by John Barrett and Ben Smailes. Regular reports of all of the
band's financial transactions a￿ made to the trustees and their operations committee
members throtjghoul the year.
POWER OF APPOINTMENT OF TRUSTEES
Responsibility for the recruitrnenl of new trustees with the existing trustees. All trustee
appointments need to be approve(J by a ¢Jeclslon of Ihe memLErs at a general ffleeting. Any
new trustees receive suitable training from the exists'ng trustees and are encouraged lo
examine the Charity Commission website for guidance.
RISKS POLICY
The trustee3 conduct a review of the major risks lo whiGh Ihe charity is extx)sed on an ongoing
basis via meetings held with an elected committee every Dwo months. INhere appropriate,
systems or prO￿dureS have been estaNished to mitigate the risks the charity faces. Intemal
control risks are minimised by the implementation of procedures for authorisation of all
transactions and projects. Those procedures are periodi(3lly reviewed to ensure thal they
continue to meet the needs of the charity.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The aims and objectives of the Society shall be to educate the public in Ihe Musical Arts and,
in partiGular. the Art of Brass Band mu&c. culture and heritage. It will aim to further the
development of the public appreciaknon of the said Art. by the presentation of concerts. th8
provision of musi&ql tuition and other activities.
The charity maintains and operates The Band Room and The James Holt Concert Hall in
Manor Vale, Kirkbymoorside. York, Y062 6EG and uses these premises for band praclice,
concerts. training, education, tuition and its charFtable activities. The James Holt Concert Hall
is also used by the 1 KIrkbyM￿r$lde Scout Group on a peppercom lease.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
The trustees met on 1 occasion and can report the more significant of the many band aclivities
during 2023124 as follows:.

Musical backdrop to the Kirkbyrnoorside Christmas Fair
Contesting Brass cOn￿rt perfo￿nan￿ alongside Swirrton & District Excelsior and
Kirkbymoorside Senior Bands
Christmas Concert
The Senior Band adivities inGluded-
Concert to celebrale 50 years anniversary of the Helmsley Arts Centre
Wotnan in Brass Concert with guest soloist Kir5ty Abbots
Players Choice concert
Musical support for community events including Amiistice Day. 10K Road Race and
annual charity Tractor Run event
National brass band championships at Durham, this year the Senior band are in Ihe
Championship Section and perfomed Philip Sparke Variations on an Engima. The
band obtained a respectable f tK)sition

FINANCIAL REVIEW
The Trustees are satisfied by the activities of the Gharity and are pleased wth Ihe results for
the year. The detail can be found in the ac¢)Junts reprcmjuced herewith.
No remuneration or othor bènefits from employment with the charity or a related Èntity were
received by the Trustees. One Trustee was paid £2065.501£850.50 in 2022-23) in respect of
travel eX￿nSeS and all of those travel expenses, being £2065.50 (£850.50 in 2022-23), were
subsequenlly donaled back to the charity, so the net (xjst to the charity of Trustee travel
expenses was £0.00 (£0.00 in 2022-23). Two trustees were reimbursed out of pocket
expenditure incurred by the charity of £359.331£0.00 in 2022-23} in total.
RESERVES POLICY
The Trustoes have considered the level of reserves that the Charity needs and are of the
opinion that the Charily should have sufficient fvnds to settle the annual govemance and
support costs of its charitable activities.
The Trustees regulady review the level of the unrestricted reserve at meetings held with an
elected committee every ￿ months. If needed the TnJstees seek further funds to fflaintain a
reasonable level of reserve to maintain future charitable activities.
FUTURE PLANS
The band has a history extending back to the earty 19 Century. For Ihis coming year the
charity plans to continue its longstanding role in the community in this coming year= _
Through the delivery of concerts. the leading of parades and other civic functions
and the fostering of the Christmas spirit through ils longslanding historical festive
activilies:
Through the free prowsion of tuition to all who wish to leam to play a Brass
instnjment:
By maintaining the highesttM)ssible standing of the senior band in the wider Brass
Band world:
Through the development of new audien￿5 to the genre of brass bands.,
By providing help and continued encouragement to young people to itnprove Iheir
standards of musicianship and to prornote the town and su￿Ound1ng area as an
area of culturdl activty.
