Objectives and Activities:
Summary of the purposes of the charity
The objects of the CIO are to advance the education of the public in the subject of Hinduism by supporting and advancing the quality of teaching of the subject in schools, particularly at GCSE and A level, developing and providing resources to assist teachers in their understanding and ability to teach Hinduism and providing information and materials for the public to improve their understanding.
Summary of the main activities

To create and maintain relations with key stakeholders for advocacy of issues relating to teaching of Hinduism in the UK. This will include governmental, local authorities, non-governmental organisations like exam boards and publishers, relating to all aspects of RE Hinduism.

To research on all relevant issues for maintaining high standards of teaching and learning of Hinduism the UK. To monitor the presentations of Hinduism in Religious Education in the UK and to alert the advocacy team of the issues.

To provide training of teachers in both the public and private sectors.

To promote and facilitate teaching of Hinduism within the educational system and outside it. To create an Institute of Hindu Studies UK for courses in all aspects of Hinduism to all ages from children to senior citizens. This can be linked to universities in the UK and abroad for certification.

To publish high-class publications for teaching and learning Hinduism in the UK

To create and maintain high-class resources for all stakeholders in the education of Hinduism in the UK
Declaration
The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in Section 17(5) of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit They have referred to this guidance when reviewing the Trust’s aims and objectives and in planning its future activities.
The Trustees consider that the aims and objectives Hindu Education Board UK are demonstrably to the public benefit.

SACRE Membership
HEB UK worked with various Hindu organisations to identify and recommend SACRE members from Hindu Faith. For following SACREs, Hindu members were identified and recommended in the reporting period:

Inputs to Agreed Syllabus
SACRE member from Cumbria SACRE requested review of Agreed Syllabus and coverage of Hinduism. Review was carried out and suggestions were provided to the member.
Diwali Assembly Campaign
Diwali is a major Hindu festival. Many Hindus receive requests from their local schools to conduct assemblies on Diwali. In November 2023, HEB UK conducted two online workshops on how to take assemblies on Diwali. HEB UK also prepared presentations for KS2 and KS3/4 students and these were shared with the workshop participants and more widely through our website. Over 50 people participated in the workshops and assemblies were given in more 35 schools across the UK.
GCSE Teaching Material Development
HEB UK started work on a project to develop teaching material for GCSE Hinduism syllabus. The purpose of the project is to develop material that could be used by the teachers in the UK and the material would be of such high quality that would benefit the teachers and students. Funding is being sought for this project from various organisations and individuals.
Other Stakeholder Engagement
HEB UK liaised with REC UK in order to get involved as member organisation. Discussions are ongoing for further involvement.
Financial Review
In reporting year 2023-24, HEB UK has income of £2500. This was through a donation from an organisation which wanted to support HEB UK in their efforts to develop GCSE teaching material.
Currently HEB UK does not hold any reserves, however the trustees would review the financial strategy during coming years.
The trustees are also looking at how to build fund through donations and regular income to support future activities.

Hindu Education Board UK is a CIP constituted as per foundation model constitution for CIOs as per guidance provided by Charity Commission for England and Wales.
Minimum of 3 and maximum of 2 trustees could be appointed by the charity and eligibility criteria for the trustees is specified in the constitution of HEB UK.
