Compassionate Activities
The church runs a debt advice centre (Kings Money Advice Centre) for the local
community, helping people address issues of debt, work towards repaying or
insolvency oplions and help with basic budgeting skills. All services are free and
confidential. During 2023 KMAC provided debt support to 33 people, 22 of whom
were new people, through a total of 88 {74 in 2022) face to face interviews, provided
by 3 volunteer5 and one member of staff.
We also work in partnership with other local churches to help provide volunteers and
donations of goods for a local Foodbank and a local clothing bank.
Through regular monthly donations we continued to support the work of Ground Level
Ministries (Registered Charity No.1001599) who provide support and accountability
for local churches, including our church.
We have continued to support the work of Spark Ministries {Shkendije> in Albania
(registered Albanian Charity) who seek to bring the love of God to the nation's children
through regular monthly donations. They aim to become a positive part of the
Albanian communities that they are reaching through bolh Spiritual and Practical
work.
Community Actlvilies
Our toddler group, for new-born children and thos8 aged up to four and th@ir parents
and carers, continues to meet On￿ a week. Between 20 and 25 children attend the
group each week, with 43 children at the Christmas party. This group enables children
to have a great time and it also gives parents and carers a chance to relax and chat
together. Many great friendships have been built up over the years.
KFC (Kings Friday Clubl is a weekly youth group for anyone in school years 6 through
10 12 which is full of fun, food, friendship, and faith. On average 12 young people
attend each week.
Café+ is a weekly community café meetlng once a week to offer a place to find
friendship, to connect and to have a chat over a cuppa.
Sunday Services
We continue to provide a regular Sunday morning church service at 10..30am we love
to welcome new people to our services which include opportunilies to worship and
pray. During the second half of the service the adults hear inspirational talks, and Ihe
children have groups which provide age-appropriate teaching, we also have a crèche
for the little ones. After the service we serve refreshments which provides an
opportunityto build community, relationships are really important at King's, we believe
that the "church" are the people not the building in which we meet!
The Church has continued to use our YouTube Channel to broadcast the Sunday
service for people to watch live at home or to calch up later.

During February we launched a new monthly evening meeting called "Encounle
which provides a space to be in God's presence through worship. prayer, prophecy,
and creativity.
The start of 2023 saw a week ofprayer, this then continued throughoutthe yearthrough
specific prayer meeting held through the week, together with Life Groups which are
mid-week small groups which meet to help individuals grow in their faith and to build
stronger church community.
The church preaching team deliver inspirational talks during the Sunday morning
meetings ofthe church. These work in conjunction with the weekly Life Groups which
follow the subject being preached on a Sunday with an opportunity to gather with
small group of people to discuss the content further, explore what it means to people
as individuals and then apply it to their lives. During the first part of the year, we
focussed on "The Cross., "The Resurrection" and the "The Ascension" this was
followed by a series on "Pentecostal People. and in the last quarter of the year
"Romans"
Many members of the church joined with other churches in the Ground Level nef￿Ork
to camp at the Lincolnshire Showground during the August Bank Holiday weekend
gathering called °Awaken', a time to gather with several thousand other Christians
with activities for all ages, the strapline of Faith, Family & Fun sums up the event.
Administratlon and Resour¢ing
The administration and resourcing area of the church provided centra5 Servi￿ and
infrastructure functions to enable the Charity to function effectively and to support the work
of the other areas of the church. Ruth Humphreys stepped down as our Church
Administrator atter overfourteen years of service to the ¢hurch. We reviewed this position,
and it became a new 16 hours per week Church Operations Support role, with Wez Smith
joining the team in April 2023.
The Church also created a new part-time, 16 hour per week, paid role with Joy Taylor
joining the team as our Children & Family Leader. In addition to Wez and Joy the church
also employs Mark Hopkins {Team Leader, 33.75 hours per week) and John Coates
(Centre Manager IKMAC), 24 hours per week).
Wider Work
The church continues to be a member of the national network the Evangelical Alliance
(EA). We released our Team Leader, Mark Hopkins, to begin a new one day per
week paid role with the EA as their Regional Unity Champion for the East Midlands,
from the 1StJanuary 2023.
We continue to play an active role in Ihework ofGround Level, releasing Mark Hopkins
Iwo days a month to serve as a Director for that organisation.
We have played an a￿1ve role in Arnold Churches Together and directly worked with
otherchurches in Arnold. We have also played an active role in Notlingham City Prayer,
a partnership of churches across the city.

The Trustees wish to exlend their thanks to our staff team, the teams of volunteers
and everyone who attends the church for all that they do to make "church" happen.
The bible tells us that Jesus said, in response to a question asking what the greatest
commandment was, 'Love the Lord your God wilh all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind., This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is
like it.. 'Love your neighbour as yourself., (Matt 22 v37-38)
This sums up the heart and vision of King's Church, above all else we love our God,
in all that we do, and we gratefully receive His love. We also love one another, and
we delight in sharing God's love wilh those who do not know Jesus Christ as their
Saviour.
"Gratefully receiving the love of God, and giving it away to others..
Financial Review
This Annual Report covers the period from the registration of the charFiy on 121h July
202210 3181 De￿mber 2023.
The charlty recerved a donatlon of £103,233 from the King's Church Arnold Charitable
Trust which previously held funds for Ihe church. These funds included a Marriage &
Family Counselling restricted fund of £1,250. the donor of these funds agreed the
transfer and the new charity agreed to continue with the restriction of these funds in
line with the donors wishes.
The charity's income to the end of 2023 was £207.207, with expenditure standing at
£113,658, the surplus for the period was £93,549. The church funds reduced from
£103,233 at the end of 2022 to £93,549 at the end of 2023, a reduction of £9,684
which was less than the budgeted deficit of £24,674. The deficit is in line with the
strategy of the Trustees and Leadership Team to invest some of the surplus from
previous years into the work of the church.
Most of the income to the church comes from gifts made by members of the
congregation, we also claim additional income from gift aid on many of these
donations. Income from gifts and associated gift aid made up 940/0 of the church's
income. The amount of giving increased from £74,589 in 2022 to £79,474 in 2023,
rise of 6.5Q/o. The Trustees and Leadership Team would like to express their thanks
to members of the congregation for their financial support of the church.
The charity successfully applied for funding from the Department for Culture, Media,
and Sport through their Community Organisations Cost of Living Fund. The church
was granted a total of £12,932 to support the work of KMAC, more detail about this
grant can be found in note 3 of the accounts on page 14. Expenditure during 2023
associated with this grant was £6,904 for the unrestricted part of the grant and £1,089
of the restricted part of the grant. The grant to cover the total expenditure of £7,993
is expected to be received in 2024.
The King's Church Arnold, Registered charity number 1199632

The church is grateful to Jigsaw Homes who provided a grant of £2,770 for the work
of KMAC.
The church invested £6,800 in new boilers as the old boilers were showing their age
with associated breakdowns, the new boilers are also more energy efficient. We also
invested £2,000 to have cavity wall insulation applied to the walls of the older large
hall of The King's Centre to improve energy efficiency.
The church has invested some of the funds it holds into a platform called "Flagstone"
which allows us to invest funds simply and quickly in a variety of bank accounts. At
the beginning of May we invested £70,000 into two accounts which generated a net
income of £1,723, after the deduction of management fees.
The total funds al the end of 2023 stood at £93,549, which includes £412 of funds
hel(1 for Arnold Churches Together (see below), the church funds at the end of the
year were £93,137.
Arnold Churches Togother
The charity holds funds on behalf of Arnold Churches Together (ACT) which is a
network of churches in the Arnold area. The income to the charity ofACT funds was
£835, expenditure during 2023 was £423, £412 offunds were carried fO￿ard to 2024
(see note 6). The church's Team Leader represents the church on ACT, he provides
the Trustees with a regular update regarding their work, and he authorises any
expenditltre, which is then subject to the standard charity checks and controls.
Risks
The financial risks of the church include the following:
The church is dependent on a few people to undertake key financial roles, we have
invested time to develop written procedures and to ensure more than one person can
carry out each of these ro18s. should Ihat be needed.
In 2023 94% of the church's income came from donations made by individuals and
the associated gift aid (900/0 in 2022), the church's activities are therefore dependent
on individuals making donations.
The church has a small staff team of four part-time members of staff. 2.2 full-time
equivalenls; it is therefore dependent on teams of volunteers lo provide church
activities. If Ihe number of volunleers decreased, either the church activities would
need to reduce andlor more paid staff would need to be employed which would
increase expenditure.
The key external risk that the church faces is Compliance, this risk includes charity,
Financial Conduct Authority (KMAC), Data Prolection, Heatth & Safety and
Employment legislation. The church has a range of policies, procedures, processes,
and systems to ensure Complian￿ with all legislatNe requirements. These are
Page8 of16
The King'8 Church Arnold, Registered charity number 1199632

regularly reviewed,. risk management is a standard agenda item at every Trustee
meeting. The church has Insuran￿ in place to mitigate some ofthe compliance fisk, it
also has a¢￿$$ to advice.
The charity's policy on reserves
The Trustees have reviewed the Charily's need for reserves in line with the guidance issued
by the Charity Commission. The Trustees have identified the need to hold unreslricted
reserves of £40,000.
The level of unrestricted funds at the end of 2023 was £90,752, the church therefore
had over twice the level of unrestricted reserves identified in the reserve policy. The
church holds £40,000 in a six-month notice bank account. The Trustees and Church
Leadership Team continue to invest the unrestricted funds over the £40k reserve into
activity lo further the aims of the charity-
