Trustees Annual Report

Charity Name: Exmouth Musical Theatre Company

Charity Registration Number: 1199614

Address: 4 Elmfield Crescent, Exmouth, Devon, EX8 3BJ

Structure and Management

The charity is run by a committee who are elected by the membership at an AGM

Activities and Objectives

The object of the company continues to be the advancement of education of the public in the dramatic arts and to encourage non-professional local adults and children in the pursuit of live theatre whether it be on stage or in the various backstage crafts, plays, readings and other charitable purposes/

The Company performs two musical productions per year. These are open to all successful auditionees or annually subscribed members. The Company hires Directors, Musical Directors, and Choreographers for each production. The Company also participates in local festivals and Musical events in the town and arranges social events for its members.

Achievements

In this financial year the company's two productions were ‘Footloose’ performed in June at the Exmouth Pavilion and ‘A Villainous Night at the Musicals’ performed in November at the Blackmore Theatre Exmouth.

Footloose encouraged several new performers to join this production and the Company is so pleased that they have decided to stay. Both NODA and The Rosebowl reviewed the production and the reports were glowing. A Villainous Night at the Musicals was also a very successful production meaning (albeit small) we did make a profit on our productions in this financial year. Part of this would be due to our new Membership structure which will be discussed below and Trustee actions to be decided on for the forthcoming financial year.

Finances

This is our first full year as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and new membership structure. Where we were able to make a small profit on our 2 productions within the year the Company did have a small loss overall of £561.62. This loss is a very achievable amount to be made back within the new financial year.

Within the new membership structure members have the option to pay £40.00 per year to be an annual ‘Core’ member or the option to pay a ‘Show Membership’ of £25.00 per show. Within this

financial period Core Membership subscriptions have remained as Membership subscriptions however, as they are show-specific, the ‘Show Membership’ payments have been included within the respective production profit and loss account.

An action to take forward to the new year will be for the Trustees to decide if Core Membership payments are to remain as Membership payments or if Core Membership payments are to be accrued per production. The complication concerning this option would be if a paid Core member does not participate in both productions within that year.

Rehearsal expenditure was not included within the Balance sheet of each production but rather as a running cost of the Company. The Trustees are to decide within the new financial year if these will be included within the profit and loss account for each production.
