FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 April 2024

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

Charity number: 1199567

CIO - FOUNDATION Registered 06 Jul 2022

## **Objectives and Activities**

The objects of the charity are to relieve poverty among individuals facing financial hardship, particularly in Africa, by providing sustainable feminine hygiene products and by teaching and training women to produce these products. The charity also aims to advance and promote health by making these products accessible and by educating women about menstruation and their own bodies. This empowers women to make informed decisions and enhances their access to life opportunities, including education.

## **Activities - How the Charity Utilizes Its Resources**

Mabel adopts a holistic approach to addressing period poverty in remote areas of Africa. We collaborate with local communities and organizations to distribute reusable period products, provide menstrual education, train local sewing groups to produce reusable pads, transforming them into micro-enterprises, and conduct surveys to gain deeper insights and offer better support to these communities.

The Trustees who served during the year and up to the date of signature of the financial statements were:

- Lauren Mellor (Chair) (Appointment 01 March 2022)

- Andrew Grant Kark ( Charity Secretary) (Appointment 01 March 2022)

- Kate Megan McCaslin (Trustee) (Appointment 01 March 2022)

- Ann Marie Spillane (Trustee)(Appointment 01 March 2022)

## **Organisation Structure**

The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees Report and the accounts in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the Trustees to prepare accounts for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Trust and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the Trust for that year.

In preparing these accounts, the Trustees are required to:

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

- observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;

- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;

**TRUSTEES' REPORT**

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 April 2024

## **2024 Trustees Report**

2023-2024 was a year of growth and strengthened relationships for The Mabel Foundation, with a focus on building connections with Mabel Ambassadors and expanding our fundraising efforts.

## **Expanding Access to Menstrual Products**

On April 14, 2023, The Period Company, based in Los Angeles, generously donated 80 pairs of period underwear to The Mabel Foundation. These period underwear were allocated to the MWCT Menstrual Project, an initiative that has been running since 2021, providing sustainable menstrual solutions to communities in need.

In August 2023, our partnership with The Period Company deepened further with an additional donation of 495 pairs of period underwear. Kate assisted in collecting the shipment in Los Angeles, and 390 pairs were donated to the community of Maui, Hawaii, following the devastating wildfires that swept the island. A community member working at United Airlines personally transported the donation and distributed them to local shelters on behalf of The Mabel Foundation. The remaining 105 pairs, along with the 80 pairs from the initial April donation, were later delivered to MWCT in Kenya. Our on-the-ground partners distributed them to local schools in the Kuku Region, accompanied by Mabel menstrual health lessons.

## **Securing Our Corporate Donation**

In May 2023, Ann Marie applied for The Mabel Foundation’s first big corporate donation through Eli Lilly, a global pharmaceutical company with operations in Ireland. This opportunity arose from Eli Lilly’s commitment to social impact and health equity initiatives.

In October 2023, Ann Marie’s tireless efforts paid off when The Mabel Foundation was donated £8,895.84, received on October 23, 2023. This funding marked a significant milestone for our foundation, supporting our mission to provide menstrual health resources to underserved communities.

## **Welcoming Our First Mabel Ambassadors**

## **Brady Poskin – Ultra Trail Mont Blanc**

In September 2023, we proudly welcomed our first Mabel Ambassador, Brady Poskin, who took on the formidable 106-mile Ultra Trail Mont Blanc, one of the most grueling and technical endurance races in the world. Family and friends rallied behind Brady’s achievement, raising $2,317.77 for The Mabel Foundation. Following the race, Brady and Kate traveled to Kenya to personally deliver period underwear from The Period Company to MWCT. Their visit ensured that the donation reached local schools, reinforcing our commitment to both menstrual equity and community engagement.

## **Leanne Maiden – Atlantic Challenge Race**

On December 12, 2023, Leanne Maiden became our second Mabel Ambassador as she set off solo on the 3,000-mile Atlantic Challenge Race. With the Mabel logo proudly displayed on her boat, Leanne used her platform to raise awareness about menstrual equity, documenting her journey and drawing parallels between her experience of life at sea—often without access to proper toilets or water—and the challenges millions of girls and women face during their periods.

On February 17, 2024, after more than two months at sea, Leanne crossed the finish line, making history as the first South African woman to complete the Atlantic crossing solo, earning a Guinness World Record.

As we step into 2024, The Mabel Foundation remains committed to expanding our impact, advocating for menstrual equity, and empowering communities worldwide. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
