Achiovèmontg & Porformaneo
The Board ofTrustees welcomed Trish Kiigour (September) as co-opted member in 2024.
The exterior ofWI House in Mortimer Comrnon was painted. Aworking psty has been set up to look at all
aspects of maintenance ofthe building.
The Federation's small. dedicated group ofWI Advisers & Wl AdviserAssistants continued to support
Wls throughout the year. both by telephone and visits to meetings.
Support was also provided through well attended events such as the Presidents & Secretaries Workshop
in Spring an(J the Treasurers Workshop in Autumn. Wl Group Meetings were attendecl byWI Advisers.
The Federation Chairman was present at several Group Meetings and visited m8nyWls during the year.
Regrettably. two Wls were suspended but several new members joined across the Faderation.
The Federation's Annual Couneil Meetlngwas held, once again. in the Michael Malnick Centre,
Leighton Park School. Readingwith the Mayorof Reading. CllrTony Page in attendance.
Following official business. members participated in a'seated Yoga. session led byJennyWhite.
Former Federation Chairman, Jean Sheppard. spoke regardingthe importance ofWI Resolutions 2nd
highlighted that the Government do look at issues raised. In addition. NFWI Board Members and sub-
committee members are included in factfinding meetings.
The final guest. Nicola Chester {"Country File Magazine columnistand author of the award-winning book
"On Gallows Down") spoke of her passion for nature. the countryside and conserv8tion.
The NFWI Annual Meetingwas held in the RoyalAlbert H811 in June. A full coach from Berkshire attended
which included Trustees. Wl Advisers. Federation Delegates and Members.
The NFWI Annual Council Meetingwas held virtually in November and was attended bythe Federation
Chairman and Treasurer.
Board of Trustees members attended Surrey. Oxfor(Jshire. Middlesex. Buckinghamshire. Isle ofwight and
Wiltshire Federation Annual Meetings.
Board olTrustees members also attended severalWI celebr8tory events a¢ross the Federation.
The Berkshire Federation Newsletter,'Berkshire News. continues to reach the membership in both
printed and electronic forms. This is supplemented with a"Fortnightly Update"from the Chairman which
is e-mailed to all Wls with rerninders of forthcoming events.
Many events were organised throughoutthe year bythe Federation's sub-committees. The needle felting,
Japanese"Boro" and Willowweavingfor Christmas craft days were well supported.
Looking ahead to 2025. the Federation's Annual Councilmeetingwillbe held atThe Michael Malnick
Centre, Leighton Parkschoolon Friday 25 April.
The NFWI Annual Meetlngwillbea virtual on-line meetingonWeOnes(Jay 4- June. Berkshire
Federation Trustees. Wl Advisers and Delegates will 8ttend the meetingvia zoom.
Events planned include Speakers Selection, Federation Quiz, a Craft Stash Sale, countywalks, a
croquettaster8nd Christmas Ragwreath workshop. The Golden Jubilee Cup competition will
be introduced with a cash prize forthe winningwi.

Financial Review
8FWI r8m8in$ financially sound despite incre88ing costs dueto inflation.
We continue to employtwo member5 of Staff. a Federation SeGietary and a F(nanclal Assi$1gni. and
their salary Is reviewed annually.
The Board continues to bevery mindful ofcontrolling costs.
Three bursaries were awarded frorn the Margaret Latham Bursary Fund in 2024. It is planned
to award bursarie5 to members for educational courses each year whilst fun(Js are available.
Legal guidence has been received from NW as to the change of use of the Margaret Smith
Bursary. Wls will be advised of the changes once the process has been completed.
Reserves Poilcy
The Board's reserves policy is that suff icient funds should be maintained in unrestricted
realisable reserves to Cover twelve months. operating expenses. including salaries. rates.
insurance, utility and off ice Costs.
The Board 81rnS to use unrestricted cash resetves in excess of this requirementto support
opportunilies oflered to the members.
This policy is reviewed bythe Board of Trustees 8nnually.
Tot81 reserves at the 3111212024 stand at £246,81812023.. £234,518) consisting ot unrestricted funds
of £219,73012023= £208,791) and restTlCted funds of £27.088 {2023: £25,727).
The unrestricted funds are held in fixed assets valued at £54.68312023= £56,331). investments valued

Investment Policy
Unrestricted funds not required inthe shortto medium term are invested in equities to provide an
ddition81 income stream.
The Trustees are willing to accept only lowto medium risk, so they have chosen to invest in M&G
Charifund. which includes a mix of equity investments. Some or all of these funds woul(J be realized,
only if theywere required to keep the Federation operdtion81.
The Margaret Latham Bur8aryfiJnd is also invested in M&G Charifund. All dividends are set aside forthe
provision of educational bursaries.
This policy is reviewed bythe Board of Trustees annually.

Expenses Policy
Trustees may receive ￿asonable travel and out-of-pocket expense5, excluding moais and other
refreshments. incurred while carryinE Out their duties forthe FeOer8tion.
Travel by car is paid at the mileage rate as set bythe Federation from timetotime.
Claims for out-ol-pocket expenses should alvrdys be supported by receipts or. in the case of mileage,
by detai18 of the joijrney tnsde and subtnirte(J on the appropri81e form or similar document.
An Offi¢8rwiil review and 8Uthortse theclaim and theTre8surer will review and appiove each claim for
payment.
This policy and procedure vyillbe reviewed bythe Boaid ofTrustees periodically. for example
at the first meeting of the board's term in office when other documents. such as Standing
Orders and Terms of Reference are reviewed.
Risk Management
The major risks to which BFWI is exposed have been identrfied by the Board ofTrustees.
A policy covering Premises Security, Health and Safety and Business Risk is reviewed
regularly.
Systems have been established to mitigate the risks identrfied.
