Objectves and actvites
Cylch Meithrin Teulu’r Tyle is a Welsh medium childcare setting which provides pre-school provision for 2 – 3 year olds and wrap around provision for children up to 11 years 11mths old. It is located on the premises of Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Tyle’r Ynn in Briton Ferry.
The Cylch is run by a committee and five members of that committee are the charity trustees.
These are :
Alison Nicholas – Trustee and Chair
Sian Hart – Trustee, Treasurer and Responsible Individual
Betsan Jones – Trustee and Committee Member
Kelly Williams – Committee Member
The Cylch Leader, Rhia Thomas is responsible for the day to day running of the Cylch.
Achievements and Performance
Cylch Meithrin Teulu’r Tyle opened in September 2022 and by 1[st] April 2024 there were 35 children registered. By the end of March 2025 there were 59 children registered at the Cylch.
From March to August 2024, the Cylch was open from 8:30-4pm and would accept children from age 2-4yrs for pre-school provision and wrap around. In September 2024, the Cylch increased their opening hours to 5:30pm and opened an after school club, increasing the age of children accepted to 11yrs 11mths. October 2024 CIW inspected the Cylch and which resulted in being awarded a ‘Good’ in all 4 areas inspected.
In addition to fees paid by parents, the Cylch receives funding from the Welsh Government Childcare Offer and also Flying Start funding. In April 2024, Flying Start requested to increase the number of funded places to 16, this was then further increased to 24 places in September 2024.
The staffing situation in April 2024 consisted of Cylch leader, 2 Nursery Nurses and an apprentice (working towards Level 3). In September 2024, the Cylch employed two additional Lv 3 nursery nurses due to an increase in numbers. A further nursery nurse (Lv 2 qualified, working towards Lv3) was employed in October 24 to cover Maternity leave (commencing in November 2024) for the Cylch’s apprentice. In October 2024 1 nursery nurse that was employed in September was dismissed and in November 2024, the Cylch employed a new nursery nurse, who was level 2 qualified and working towards Lv 3 playworks.
In May 2025, the committee for the Cylch asked Mr Alistair Mahoney and Miss Gwen Shenton to step down from their roles on the committee as they have been unable to commit to attending meetings due to work commitments. Miss Kelly Williams accepted an invitation to join the committee.
