## **TRUSTEES' REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025**

The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements of the charity for the year 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.

## **Objectives and activities**

## **a. Policies and objectives**

The purpose of the charity is the advancement of the Christian faith according to the principles of the Baptist denomination. Our vision is 'to be an authentic church with a place for everyone'.

In setting objectives and planning for activities, the Trustees have given due consideration to general guidance published by the Charity Commission relating to public benefit, including the guidance 'Public benefit: running a charity (PB2)'.

## **b. Strategies for achieving objectives**

The Trustees of Wymondham Baptist Church meet each month except in August and December and are responsible for the pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical mission of the church. The Trustees are also responsible for the maintenance of the church in Queen Street, Wymondham, the extension project in Queen Street and the manse in Folly Road, Wymondham. Each member of the Leadership Team takes responsibility for an area of the work of the church. Many of the church activities were put on hold in the summer of 2025 as the extension project commenced on site. The extension is a multi-purpose building that will enable the church fellowship to enhance the services we offer to the local community. Time has also been spent in assessing the other maintenance work needed to upgrade the facilities that we can offer for the work of the church and to the local community.

## **c. Activities undertaken to achieve objectives**

The Trustees have due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit and they are committed to enabling as many people as possible to be part of the worshipping community. Until August 2025 all services were live streamed and recordings placed on our website. When building work began in the summer of 2025 we continued to worship in the Queen Street premises, however we are currently reviewing the best platform to use to offer live streaming of the services. We continue to record the weekly sermon and this is posted on the church website. The local church leaders meet regularly to share and support one another and Wymondham Baptist Church is part of this group. In order to offer support to the fellowship and the community we offered a six week ‘Life and Death’ course at the beginning of 2025. As a fellowship we shared in the nationwide Gather 25 prayer gathering. Opportunities have been regularly offered to engage in corporate prayer. The Leadership Team have spent time together offsite considering future activities and how the church vision can be developed.

**TRUSTEES' REPORT (CONTINUED) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025**

## **Objectives and activities (continued)**

## **d. Main activities undertaken to further the charity's purposes for the public benefit**

We are a welcoming church seeking to show Jesus and his love in all we do. We have continued to hold our Sunday morning services throughout the year even though a large area of the premises has not been available to us since the building work commenced. The children and young people continue to meet together on a Sunday morning and a creche is provided. The Friday Night Youth Group has also continued to meet. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of the month and also take communion to those who are housebound. Before the building work began, we were able to hold Café Church on two occasions. Our services are always open to everyone, the rear entrance to the church has been re-opened and a ramp provided for disabled access. We have tithed all our fellowship giving and this has been given to Baptist Missionary Society, Good News Evangelical Mission, the Falconer Trust and Besom – a local charity. We now offer 6 homegroups where the fellowship can share together as they study God’s word. The group leaders meet regularly to review and share the progress of their group.

Until the building work began we ran our community café each Wednesday and Friday as well as a youth café on a Tuesday afternoon. Rosedale Bereavement follow on group met monthly during the café opening time as did a local book group. The local Menscraft Group also used the main church hall each Thursday afternoon.

Our warm space (Home from Home) met each week until the end of May 2025 and were able to re-open in November. The Trussell Trust Foodbank have continued to use the premises each week and the church has now refurbished a designated space for their storage and use both now and in the future.

During the year our ECO group held a plant sale and continued to offer a Uniform Bank until the building work commenced. The group also prepared and sold an ECO calendar for 2026 and shared our concern for caring for our environment.

Early in the year our pastor was diagnosed with a brain tumour and plans for his sabbatical had to be put on hold. Special times of prayer were held and although he is still on medication he has returned to work full time.

A new group was started early in 2025 – ‘Singing for Fun’ – giving an opportunity to anyone to share a fun time together, singing – not professionally but just for fun. On average 12/15 people come along each month and value the fun time singing together.

## **Achievements and performance**

## **a. Main achievements of the charity**

Our primary purpose is to teach people about Jesus, his life, death and resurrection and to this end our minister prepares a preaching programme following different areas of Bible study. During the time of our pastor’s sick leave a member of the leadership team took the responsibility for inviting guest speakers and sometimes covering the preaching herself.

During the course of the year one member died, three members withdrew their membership and eight new members have been added. The church currently has 61 members.

We continued our fund raising during the year, both externally and internally and the budget for the building project was met and the architect was instructed to seek tenders from local builders. After careful consideration the Leadership Team and the church membership agreed the appointment of a builder and the project commenced in the summer with a completion date of March 2026.

During the year consideration was given to the church IT systems and it was agreed to appoint a local provider to install, manage and maintain these systems. This work is now complete.

## **TRUSTEES' REPORT (CONTINUED) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025**

## **Achievements and performance (continued)**

Members of the fellowship continued to support Samaritans Purse Shoebox appeal.

As an outreach to the men of the fellowship and the local community a Men’s Curry Night was arranged in November and this was well attended and is to be repeated in 2026.

The annual Carol Service was held on a Saturday afternoon rather than on a Sunday just prior to Christmas and this proved to be very popular with lots of visitors from the local community attending and will be repeated in 2026.

## **Financial review**

## **a. Going concern**

After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. For this reason, they continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing the financial statements. Further details regarding the adoption of the going concern basis can be found in the accounting policies.

## **b. Reserves policy**

At 31 December 2025, the charity held total funds of £3,211,721 _(2024 - £3,031,189)_ of which £2,893,975 _(2024 - £2,944,022)_ was unrestricted. Free reserves (including designated funds) at 31 December 2025 are £41,931 _(2024 - £29,300)_ .

## **Structure, governance and management**

## **a. Constitution**

Wymondham Baptist Church is a registered charity, number 1199302, and is constituted under a Trust deed.

## **b. Methods of appointment or election of Trustees**

The management of the charity is the responsibility of the Trustees who are elected and co-opted under the terms of the Trust deed.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025**

## **Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Wymondham Baptist Church ('the charity')**

I report to the charity Trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2025.

## **Responsibilities and Basis of Report**

As the Trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the 2011 Act').

I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

## **Independent Examiner's Statement**

Since the charity's gross income exceeded £250,000 your examiner must be a member of a body listed in section 145 of the 2011 Act. I confirm that I am qualified to undertake the examination because I am a member of Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, which is one of the listed bodies.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

This report is made solely to the charity's Trustees, as a body, in accordance with Part 4 of the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. My work has been undertaken so that I might state to the charity's Trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an Independent Examiner's Report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity's Trustees as a body, for my work or for this report.

## **WYMONDHAM BAPTIST CHURCH**

## **NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025**

## **1. General information**

Wymondham Baptist Church is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO), registered on 14 June 2022 under charity number 1199302. The principal office address is Wymondham Baptist Church, Queen Street, Wymondham NR18 0AY.

## **2. Accounting policies**

## **2.1 Basis of preparation of financial statements**

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) - Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011.

The financial statements have been prepared to give a 'true and fair' view and have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to the extent required to provide a 'true and fair' view. This departure has involved following the Charities SORP (FRS 102) published in October 2019 rather than the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice effective from 1 April 2005 which has since been withdrawn.

Wymondham Baptist Church meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy.

## **2.2 Income**

All income is recognised once the charity has entitlement to the income, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably.

Grants are included in the Statement of Financial Activities on a receivable basis. The balance of income received for specific purposes but not expended during the period is shown in the relevant funds on the Balance Sheet. Where income is received in advance of entitlement of receipt, its recognition is deferred and included in creditors as deferred income. Where entitlement occurs before income is received, the income is accrued.

Other income is recognised in the period in which it is receivable and to the extent the goods have been provided or on completion of the service.

Page 9

## **WYMONDHAM BAPTIST CHURCH**

**NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025**

## **2. Accounting policies (continued)**

## **2.3 Expenditure**

Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis once there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefit to a third party, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is classified by activity. The costs of each activity are made up of the total of direct costs and shared costs, including support costs involved in undertaking each activity. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs which contribute to more than one activity and support costs which are not attributable to a single activity are apportioned between those activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. Central staff costs are allocated on the basis of time spent, and depreciation charges allocated on the portion of the asset’s use.

Expenditure on charitable activities is incurred on directly undertaking the activities which further the charity's objectives, as well as any associated support costs.

All expenditure is inclusive of irrecoverable VAT.

## **2.4 Interest receivable**

Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured reliably by the charity; this is normally upon notification of the interest paid or payable by the institution with whom the funds are deposited.

## **2.5 Tangible fixed assets and depreciation**

Tangible fixed assets are initially recognised at cost. After recognition, under the cost model, tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. All costs incurred to bring a tangible fixed asset into its intended working condition should be included in the measurement of cost.

Assets in the course of construction are included at costs incurred to date. Depreciation on these assets is not charged until they are brought into use.

Depreciation is charged so as to allocate the cost of tangible fixed assets less their residual value over their estimated useful lives.

Depreciation is provided on the following bases:

- Freehold property 2% straight line - Fixtures and fittings 10 year straight line

Page 10

## **WYMONDHAM BAPTIST CHURCH**

**NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025**

## **2. Accounting policies (continued)**

## **2.6 Cash at bank and in hand**

Cash at bank and in hand includes cash and short-term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.

## **2.7 Liabilities and provisions**

Liabilities are recognised when there is an obligation at the Balance Sheet date as a result of a past event, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefit will be required in settlement, and the amount of the settlement can be estimated reliably.

Liabilities are recognised at the amount that the charity anticipates it will pay to settle the debt or the amount it has received as advanced payments for the goods or services it must provide.

Provisions are measured at the best estimate of the amounts required to settle the obligation. Where the effect of the time value of money is material, the provision is based on the present value of those amounts, discounted at the pre-tax discount rate that reflects the risks specific to the liability. The unwinding of the discount is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities as a finance cost.

## **2.8 Financial instruments**

The charity only has financial assets and financial liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic financial instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value and subsequently measured at their settlement value.

## **2.9 Pensions**

The charity operates a defined contribution pension scheme and the pension charge represents the amounts payable by the charity to the fund in respect of the year.

## **2.10 Fund accounting**

General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.

Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the Trustees for particular purposes. The aim and use of each designated fund is set out in the notes to the financial statements.

Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors or which have been raised by the charity for particular purposes. The costs of raising and administering such funds are charged against the specific fund. The aim and use of each restricted fund is set out in the notes to the financial statements.

Investment income, gains and losses are allocated to the appropriate fund.
