Military vs Cancer aims to provide relief to persons in need, by reason of ill-health due to the effects of cancer throughout the British Isles, by advancing any lawful charitable purpose at the discretion of the trustees and in particular but not exclusively to make grants to organisations who deliver diagnosis, treatment, care, research, education and emotional support to patients and families during the ongoing stages of their cancer journey and to provide or make available facilities and services for cancer patients, their families and formally appointed carers and any other

projects or initiatives which the trustees may decide. Issued 22 grants to personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, Veterans and immediate families. 

Helped 22 individuals and their families Provided £44,224.37 of financial support 

Provided timely information to families in support of their diagnosis

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

Fundraising Success: Raised **£195,700** through various events and campaigns, directly supporting the Armed Forces Community. 

Community Engagement: Strengthened ties with the military community and the wider public, raising awareness of cancer issues and promoting health and wellness. 

High-Profile Events: Organised successful events such as the Summer Ball, Armed Forces Day Rugby Event and Peak District Challenge bringing together key figures from the defence industry and beyond to support the cause. 

Collaborative Partnerships: Established and maintained valuable partnerships with sponsors, such as ET Payroll, Hydrocert, Repic, Recycling Lives and GAP NE enhancing the impact of the charity’s efforts. 

Support: Gained the support of high-profile entertainers like Richard Jones, helping to elevate the charity’s profile and reach a broader audience. 

Expansion of staff: Expanded our knowledge base by having 2 extra trustees and 2 extra patrons join us, offering more resources and assistance to those affected by cancer within the Armed Forces Community.

The Board of Trustees have determined that one of the Key Performance Indicators for the new Chief Executive (commenced duties on 1[st] July 2024) will be to establish a reserve equivalent to 6 months bare-bones operating costs within 18 months of his appointment.

Our principal source of funds is from fundraising activities such as the Great North Run, Summer Ball, Armed Forces Day Rugby Event and our annual physical challenge. 

The key objectives of the charity were and still are to raise our profile whilst supporting the increasing numbers of grant applications we receive. The appointment of staff (paid and unpaid) allows us to maintain the required functions such as administration and event management.
