## **Uniformed**

## Annual Report for the year ended 31 December 2022

## **Trustee Report for the year ended 31 December 2022**

The trustees present their report and the accounts for the year ended 31 December 2022. The account has been prepared in accordance with section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Charities Act”).

## **Objectives & activities**

The trustees review the aims, objectives, and activities of the charity each year.

The trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity’s aims and objectives and in pl anning its future activities. In particular, the trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives that have been set.

The principal objects of Uniformed is to alleviate the impact of poverty on children by providing school uniformed support to disadvantaged families. We aim to do this through the provision of school uniform vouchers to children from disadvantaged families.

## **Achievements and performance**

2022 was an exciting year for Uniformed as it was our first year in operation, and we were able to hit the ground running and achieve a range of milestones.

## **Charity Set Up**

Setting up and successfully registering as a Charity was a complicated process, but meant that we could now operate as an organisation. We finalised and adopted our constitution, and successfully applied for registration as a Charity, with registration effective from 26 May 2022. We also successfully set up our banking facilities and our online donation channel via PayPal.

## **Website**

Our website went ‘live’ for the first time in April 2022, and has been consistently upgraded to a high standard ever since. The website is our principal means of engagement with the public, communicating our vision and raising funds.

4

## **Partnerships during the year:**

_The Kemnal Academy Trust_

The Kemnal Academy Trust (TKAT) is one of the UK’s largest and most socio -economically challenged multi-academy trusts (MATs). We initially reached out to TKAT in November 2022, and had a working partnership by December 2022. We work closely with David Churchill, their Head of Opportunity, who has been a consistent support for us as an organisation.

We now work with the below schools as a result of our partnership with TKAT:

- Tangmere Primary Academy

- Salmestone Academy

- Dame Janet Primary

- Newlands Primary

- Northdown Primary

- Draper Mills Academy

## _Price and Buckland_

Our uniform vouchers provider during the year was Price & Buckland. Our service model operates as follows:

- We raise money from grant-making bodies.

- We buy vouchers at cost from Price & Buckland (£30) and provide vouchers to families at price (£50)

- We provide vouchers to schools to distribute to parents in need.

## _Funding from Grants_

During the period, we applied for numerous grants and successfully raised unrestricted grants of £5,250 pounds.

## _Voucher provision_

Our school uniform vouchers are provided to children from disadvantaged families through our partner schools. During the year, we successfully issued 101 vouchers to Co-op Academy (Glebe Academy) and Alpha Academy (Discovery Academy).

## **Challenges during the year**

## _Voucher utilisation_

Our major challenge during the year was voucher utilisation. We envisage that this will improve in the future as we have invested more time in providing communications and guides on how to redeem vouchers. We would also be allocating a significant amount of time to follow up with partner schools on a regular basis to receive feedback on any potential difficulty families encounter around voucher redemption.

## **Financial Review**

Uniformed is reporting a closing cash balance of £4,878 for the year ended 31 December 2022, with operating period commencing on 26th May 2022.

The sources of funding this year have been:

- Grants

- Individual donors

Uniformed receives a significant portion of our funding from grants.

The income funds the costs of school uniform vouchers and other operating expenses related to running the charity. These costs include (but not limited to) Google Cloud payments, website hosting fees and bank charges.

Grant receipts during the year was £5,250 and individual donations £730.

Uniformed spend on redeemed voucher provision was £660. This was due to the low level of voucher utilisation by recipient schools and a need to establish more connections with partner schools.

Other operating expenses amounted to £443.

## **Reserves policy**

Our policy is to maintain an operating reserve account and sufficient cash balances to ensure the stability of the charity and day-to-day operations. The operating reserve is intended to provide an internal source of funds for situations such as an unanticipated decline in fundraising. There are no staff costs or contractual commitments to suppliers.

## **Reserves**

At the year- end Uniformed had £1200 set aside as reserves, to cover the Charity’s financial commitments for 6 months in the event of any shortfall in funding. The reserve forms part of the cash balance as at year end.

## **Going concern**

The trustees are not aware of any uncertainties regarding the charity continuing as a going concern.

## **Future**

As part of our ambitious plan, we intend to work towards the achievement of the following goals:

- Improve voucher utilisation from current position of 20% to 80%

- Launch a Hardship Fund for the provision of uniform vouchers to disadvantaged families outside of our partner school network.

- Provision of 600 vouchers

   - 400 being for Partner schools.

   - 200 Vouchers for Hardship Fund

-

- Build new partnerships with grant organisations and schools.
