Achlevements and Performance- Chairman's Report 2024
Looking back 2024 has been a very good year for the choir. and as always my
grateful thanks to the committee. who without their total and dedicated support
none of this would be possible.
Andy our concert Secretary had an unexpected health event in October 2024,
thankfully with the quick reaction of the paramedics and the aftercare at Swindon
Hospital he is now on the mend. For a while he has stepped back from his role as

Concert Secretary but is hoping to resurne his role in Aprivmay 2025. However it is
great to see him back at rehearsals, In the interim we have covered his role and the
one thing I have learnt that it is no easy task being Concert Secretary, it appears
you arrange things then spend time constantly chasing other parties to commit and
get a response.
We have a few milestones to celebraie, the choir has gained sponsorship from two
local companies. St James Place and Lewington Wealth Management. (which is
hopefully part of an ongoing sponsorship relationship) many thanks to Steve and
Andy who were instrumental in getting these sponsorship deals, putting the choir in
a strong financial position.
Members have been given a new 'refresh'. we have kitted members out in new
trousers and ties and Burgundy T-shirts. having a more relaxed, yet professional
look, benifiting the audience appeal and to help draw in new members.
Our talented music t8am James Wilshire as (Mjr MD. and Louise as our
accompanist, together have really taken the choir to a new level, and make
rehearsals enjoyable. We are managing to recruit a few new members, and in 2025
will plan to hold a further recruitment event.
One of the big key events for us in 2024 was members taking part the Cornwall
Intemational Male Choral festival 2024. We kicked off on the Friday evening by
singing at the Camborne Centenary Chapel. a thoroughly enjoyable event. For the
first time on the Saturday morning the choir took part in the C8tegory11 Competition
held at Truro Cathedral. A total of 12 choirs took part, and for our sins we were the
first on at 09.30, very nerve rackn'ng, I felt we gave a very good account of ourselves,
the advantage of being first on is that we had the rest of the day to relax or watch
other choirs taking part. Later some of us returned to the cathedral to hear the
results. The judges announced the first three places, regretfully we were not placed
and we left the cathedral late that afternoon, slightly despondent but not down and
really felt pleased with our overall perfomiance.
On the Sunday mcKning we learnt that we had in fact come fourth. with just one
point behind third place, and four points behind first place, we were astonishedl
Believe me when I say this is not to shabby result, really lifting the choir's spirit.
We then set off to Falmouth to sing in the afternoon at the Princess Pavilion, and
then in the evening travel onto Sl. Andrews Church Redruth to take part in an
evening concert again along with four other choirs.
Not only was it a very rewarding trip where again new contacts were made, we were
very pleased with the result. Steve put together an extremely good write up and we
had a mention with pics in the Wilts & Glos a week later. further enhancing the
publicity and public awareness of our activities.
Without doubt the second key event for the choir was traveling to Wales in July to
sing in Gorseinon St. Catherine's Church with Parti Lcwar and the Morriston Male
Voice Choir. It was an absolutely wonderful event and a chance to sing with Welsh
choirs on their own turf. What I thought was particularly unique on a personal level
and made it all the more of a standout event. is the fact that Tony and his wife
Noelyn revealed that 50 years ago to the day they got married in that very church.
The concert was followed in the evening by an afterglow at the Morriston Rugby

Club, they laid on a fine spread for us, and what a treat that was, really showing
how much they appreciated our visit.
On October the 19th, we held a joint concert with the Blue Notes plus the a local
children's choir part of Stagecoach performing Arts. The concert theme was based
on musicals. What a delight to have the youngsters take part. It is really is great to
help foster music in a ycxjnger generation. The concert was packed and a complete
success. As always may very grateful thanks to the Friends of CMVC who worked
behind the scenes to manage the ticket stations and look after the bars serving
drinks.
Throughout the year we have been busy appearing at a number of local events.
carols at Paternoster House and Watermoor House, many thanks to the staff in both
venues who made us more than welcome. and is fantastic to see how the resiclents
appreciate our visit.
We sang at Tesco's in December to raise monies for Macmillan Cancer, and
although rt appeared to be quiet night. Jenny tells me they raised £380.66 in one
hour, a donation of £100 was made by one person. My grateful thanks go to
Melanie 'Community Champion. at Tesco's who really assists us each year.
Moving forwards we are now planning more events for 2025126 and look forward to
growing and bringing more people the benefit of our musicl
Flnancial Review
As per the annual accounts, attached. the charity is in a strong financial position.
Our principal income streams remain membership sut)scriptions and performance
fees / concert surpluses which have remained strong throughout the period. The
trustees are aware of the additional income throughout this financial period and are
mindful that a sizable amount of this is from two significant sponsorship agreements
which may not be repeated. Our reserve policy is set at £4,000 which allows for
around 6 months of 'regular' expenses with no income to match these. At year end
we held £8858.72 - on which basis the committee have agreed to set aside £4000
to fund specific travel requirements for the choir and its members to future events.
During the period our income was significantly boosted by members funding their
transF)Ort to the Cornwall Intemational Male Choral festival 2024. This was
immediately paid out again to festival organisers. with the choir choosing to
subsidise some of this from reserves. meaning a 'loss' from this event - outweighed
by the intangible benefits it brought in meeting our charitable objectives,
Structure, Governance and Management
The charity became regislered in 26" May 2022 and is regulated by our constitution
of 19 October 2021. It is unincorporated, operated by an elected committee. All

year terms before becoming eligible for re-election, should members votes support
this. The charity is a memt)er of Making Music. a body of choirs, musicians an(J

those supporting them, for the benefit of Ihose membws through advice, materials
and services such as insurance.

Treasurer Report for y￿r 2023 - 2024
Attached to this report are the foll(Ming.'
Receipts and Payments Accounts for ts year 01110123 - 3019124
SL*ement of Assets and Liabilities at 31kn September 2024
A summery of major events throughout the year
The swnmary of accounts for th8 year 1110r2023-301912024 show that * the end of the year the closlng
balance shows a increase of £3731.37 for this financial year. This is a brilliant amount of mon8y and is
testament to the hardware of both membern and the comrrmttee to create this position.
This reversal of fortunes is due to a number ot factors, including the g8nerous spork8orships of both St
James, Place and L8wngton Weatth Management, to whom we are very grateful. The increas8d
subscrlptions from November 23 from £15 per month to £25 per morrth has also had a major bearlng on
our financial position. Givlng us the finanaa freedom to, for the first time, be able to pay our regular
outgoings Imuslc Team, Rent, Purchase of Music, Uniform. Insurance. W8b services. and Memberships)
from our regular income of subscriptlons. Aongside this. the increased membership fees is mirrored in our
gift ald receipts, totalling £1794.48 received in the period.
Another ggnlficant source ol inMme during the year was, as ever. concerts. The committee made the
decision to not designate charrties for our Christmas concert and only gave away a limited donation from
our November concert leaving combined prolits from these two ventures of £1949.30. The committee will
be revisiting our charttable giving policy during the current year.
Whilst th8 additional income has been beneficial, we have also spent signrficant sums during the year In
replacing all the choir trousers and ties. as well as purchasing new t-shirts. This uniform cost during the
year has been £2260.46, a significant outlay which we hope will last a number of years assumin9 it18
looked after by members. Our thanks go to Steve Lynas for arranging these improvements.
The other large expenditurn during the year was the choir tour to Cornwall. Joining the Cornwall
International Male Choral Festival was a cost to the choir of £3247 including our music team, hotel
subsidies and entry fees. The comradprship this generates. along with contacts with other choirs and the
Incentive for musical improvement is worth every penny and we hope to retum again in 2026. A8 such at
year end. the committee havè d8signated £4000 of the year end reserves to fund future travel.
Our membership has risen f￿M 26 in October 21 to 39 at year end. with continuirg focus on recrultment
this makes the choir ever more finanCi￿lY securp. To maintain our charitable objectives the commrttee are
very awa￿ of those wh) might not be able to afford our subscriptions and so corrtinue to make provision
for reduced rates for those less able to afford these.
My grateful thanks to everyone. for your continued gjpport, and together wa look foThvard to another
positive year ahead.
