TRUSTEES' REPORT

YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2024

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Our principal objective is to support dachshund and dachshund cross breeds and their owners whilst their dogs are suffering pain from IVDD, recovering, disabled or elderly. As well as providing equipment to aid their recovery/enrich their lives in their senior years, we also guide and support owners to make informed decisions with regards to emergency referral and treatment which may be needed. We are also committed to educating the public in matters pertaining to animal welfare and responsible ownership in general.

The Trustees confirm that the activities of the charity are undertaken to achieve the charity’s aims with regard to the public benefit guidance issued by The Charity Commission.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

2023 - 2024 was extremely challenging for us in terms of the volume of owners approaching us for guidance and support. With Pet insurance at a premium, many owners are now being forced to cancel their policies, with encouraging evidence coming out of the IVDD Cambridge Trials, we have been able to inform owners of alternative care and recovery options other than going down the surgical route. We continue to meet demand for all owners who get in touch with the charity.

We have been fortunate to receive payments from VAT Returns, Gift Aid and Easy Fundraising which has helped us with our finances hugely.

We are grateful that we continue to receive donations from our supporters either by standing orders, one off donations, their own fundraiser but also to those that send us parcels of gifts so that we can use these for auction and raffles to raise funds.

Trustees - Dedicated to Dachshunds are delighted that we appointed new trustees Sharon O’Neill, Carole Doubtfire, Elaine Cheetham and Vicky Watt-hedges

Elaine Brechin resigned as a Trustee and Advice Support to the charity, we thank Elaine for all the support, work and guidance that she gave to D2D and owners as well as being a valued member of team for over 8 years.

Office Procedures – We continue to improve our way of working as a charity by adapting new processes as the need arises. This year we have implemented a system to chase up any outstanding equipment loan payments, if payment can’t be made to ask for a small donation to help towards our costs.

Newsletters – We have only had 2 Newsletter during this financial year which covered the topics Reputable Breeders, Dachshund Rescue Centres and an overview on what Dedicated to Dachshunds had been doing over the past year. Due to the business of the charity, we will continue with newsletters into the next year.

D2D Mission – We continue to roll out our information poster where we can. This coming year we aim to continue with emailing this together with the informative Cambridge Trial Webinar to as many vet practices as possible with the guidance of Dachshund Health UK and Cambridge University.

Sympathy cards – After looking at having our own cards supplied, we decided we would use some lovely designs that had been sourced at a reasonable cost, these are being sent out with our Forget-menot seeds.

Team Tactics – We have been fortunate to have been invited again by Team Tactics to two Wheels-forWalkies Team Building event days for corporate companies. We had one last December and another in September, we were donated the wheels at the end of the session which we are grateful for.

Equipment – Due to the number of years that we have been supporting and supplying owners with equipment, the charity is having more equipment returned once the owners are no longer needing it. We now have a good supply of stock so that we don’t need to purchase so much new equipment each month. The pre-loved strollers that are returned are checked, maintained and cleaned before re-issuing to the new owner.

Fundraising

Sausage Dog Walks

Our team of volunteers continue to organise Sausage Dog Walks through our Sausage Dog Walks South Wales Facebook Group. The walks are held across South & West Wales which include, Aberavon, Abergavenny, Barry, Cardiff, Carmarthen, Monmouth, and Swansea Bay. These events are well attended by owners and dogs who very much enjoy the walk and socialisation, all walks are fundraisers for the charity.

Auction

Our auction is still very popular, we are thankful to new members who join our D2D Auction group on a daily to basis to support D2D. We launch on the 1[st] of each month, this year we have introduced items that have been “Buy it Now” these have been received well and keeps the audience interacted with our page during the month, this has also boosted our monthly fundraising. We have also launched our new brand #bemoreburt and we are grateful to Vicky Watt-hedges who has kindly donated and packed up beautifully all the bundles at Christmas and Easter, we also ran a fun competition to interact with the members on “Name the Bunny” before we launched our Easter Bonanza. Our auction members have also enjoyed listing their own items and seeing the bids come in on their own listings.

Aberavon Fun Day

On 19th October 2024, we held our annual “All Dachshunds Great & Small" fundraising event which took place at the Aberavon Beach Hotel. We had some generous prizes donated for our raffle which we launched in April this year, we had a good response over the coming months that it was running across social media platforms. We had an indoor market with a variety of stalls, dog shows and races on the beach, there was something for everyone. This year we decided that we would have our own Dedicated to Dachshund Information desk with equipment to give advice and show people what D2D is all about and what the fundraising money raised is spent on. We were also able to advise on preventative measures to reduce IVDD as well as keeping owners informed on choices of treatment and new research that has come out of the Cambridge Trial.

As well as the above Fundraisers, we are so grateful for donations and fundraisers on behalf of Dedicated to Dachshunds, without the support we wouldn’t be able to help so many families.
