Stand4Yemen Annual Report 2023-2024

(21/04/2023 - 20/04/2024)

Charity no. 1199003

Charity object - “The relief and assistance of people in Yemen who are the victims of war in particular by supplying medical aid, food, clean water, temporary accommodation and education to such persons.”

Income: £22,043 Expenditure: £23,296

Distribution of Food, Clean Water, Medical Aid and Educational Resources

The charity works with a network of about 9 volunteers. These people are known and trusted from several years of informal cooperation.

The main activities of the charity take place in the Northern Houthi controlled cities of Sana’a, Hodeidah, Taizz and the Southern government-controlled city of Aden.

The Charity currently collects about £1800 in donations in the UK each month: £900 for food baskets, 250 for water (for four refugee camps in Aden), and £650 for seven different needy cases: two ill elderly individuals who need monthly medicine and diapers, two orphans, one disabled young man, one orphan girl in Aden, and one disabled boy in Sana'a.

The Charity has a formal cooperation agreement with the Sawaed Al Khair Humanitarian Foundation, and all funds transferred to Yemen are distributed via this organisation. Since June 2024, the Charity has changed its method of transferring funds to Yemen to every three months due to the long time it takes and transfer fees.

The volunteers use the funds to buy food, clean water and where relevant medical aid and educational resources such as pencils, pens and paper.

The volunteers are known in the area and are often approached with requests of support for families in critical need. The volunteers visit the families and verify that the needs identified are valid. The volunteers usually take photos or short videos on their phone to provide evidence of the need.

The volunteers always risk assess the distribution of aid. The main hazards are military attacks, robbery or ‘taxation’ by police. The volunteers always check local intelligence before distributing aid and do this as discreetly as possible.

Records of aid distribution are kept in a simple record of assistance form.
