Treasurers Report for 2024-2025

For Anslow Village Hall Charity 1198972

Total Income this year was £42,621.

We received £16,867 in grants from Consolidated Charity of Burton, ACRE, Awards for All and East Staffs Borough Council towards the new suspended ceiling and lights in the main hall and over the stage area. Also £8,000 from the J&O Lloyd Foundation towards our new heaters.

Income from Occasional hirers was £4,449, and our regular hirers £11,620

Thanks must go to Mark for organising two fundraisers for the hall which brought in much needed revenue of £1,685. We also received £104 raised by being a member of the Lottery run by ESBC.

The hall is well used: regular hirers, includes, Bridge Club, WI, Children’s Dance, Choir, Gardening Club, Karate, Martial Arts x 2, Yoga, Pilates, Parish Council, Art Appreciation, Dog training, Adult Dance (Burton Kerala Community), Babies Messy Play, Burton Stroke Club and a Faith Group. Occasional hirers, includes, children’s and family parties, baby showers, Baby Naming Ceremony, Christmas Wreath Making, Theatre Group, and Church fund raising events.

Expenditure was £49,689

Builder repointed outside kitchen wall and steps and discovered the main source of the damp in the kitchen, was roof panels not extending into the guttering thus rainwater has been running down the outside wall for over 20 years. Extension fitted to roof panels to ensure rainwater drains into guttering.

Toilets and lobby have been redecorated.

A rebuild cost assessment was ordered in August to comply with our Insurers requirements and found the amount we are Insured for was correct.

In preparation of the ceiling project, an Asbestos Survey was ordered and took place as required by the hall’s insurers. No Asbestos found. New suspended ceiling installed including a rewire of the main hall and new light panels.

Electrical hand dryers installed in toilets, and the 5-year Electrical Survey completed.

Small window in gent’s toilet replaced as hopper faulty and unable to close it properly.

Small skip hired and committee room cleared of “mobile bar”, and under stage cleared of junk that had accumulated there. Committee room can now be used as a Green Room by entertainers during fund raisers.

New heaters fitted throughout the hall. Radiators in main hall can be programmed. Unfortunately, not long after been fitted, the fixings to the 6 main radiators were damaged by people sitting on them. To prevent this happening again, radiators have been moved further up the wall.

New brass effect curtain poles fitted to hall.

As the piano when it was moved by the choir had been damaging the floor, agreed that the piano would be disposed of, and the choir could replace it with an electric organ, which is now in place.

A motorised screen has been fitted in the main hall, after requests from regular hirers.

As a result of all these works, the hall continues to be kept up to date, and the damp feeling in the kitchen and small committee room banished.

A new fixed agreement with EDF, was taken out in September 2024 for 2 years.

The agreed increase in hirer’s fees again, means the hourly rate is now in general accordance with other venues nearby.

Further updates to the hall still needed, these include:

Ceiling Projector, Decorating main hall and back rooms, Hearing Loop, new floor to kitchen and back room.
