The Trustees submit their second annual report and the accounts for the year ended 30 June 2024.

Structure. Governance and Managemerrt
The Society of Catholic Medical Mlsslonarles SCMM, (also known as Medical Mission Sisters) was
founded in 1925 by Dr. Anna Dengel in Washington DC. United Ststes of America. It Is an
international, apostolic. religious order in the Roman Catholic Church.
The Trustees: CIO has three131 Trustees. They are:
The society Coordinator automatically Is ex-offlclo, the chair, as long as she holds the office.
She 15 elected by the General Chapter of the order for a term of slx years according to the
constitutfon of the Society. She serves by Inspiri￿ coordinating, and leadlng the Soclety as
it carrie5 Out its mission in five contlnents.
The other two Trustees are appointed by resolution in wrltlng bythe Soclety Coordlnator.
A member of the Society Coordlnator's Councll as a Trustee Is appolnted as the Secretaryiby
the Gcncral A55cmbly IGAI until her tcrm as mcmber of thc Soclcty Coordlnatorfs councll.
The General TreaSu￿r Is appolnted by the General Assembly, ordinarily for six years. She Is
responslble for the management of the financial assets of the Soclety, assisted by a Finance
Offlcer.
The Trustees have delegated to the MMS Reglon UK Commlttee to manage the MMS Reglon
UK Operauonal Designated Fund and the MMS Region UK Care Deslgnated Fund as
determlned by the Temis of Reference adopted on 12 November 2022.
At the beglnnlng of thelrterm, the newTrustees recelved a detalled Inductfon to thelrTrustee duttes
and other slgnifi¢ant aspects of the Charity's operations. In the Interest of keeplng abreast wlth
changlnB regulat1ons and new developments. the Trustees re8ularly revlew 8uldance and updates
155ued by the Charity Commlsslon and other bodles, as well as they attended onllne weblnars and
ChaTIty conferences,
Any new trustees must be appolnted by resolutlon In wrftln8 by the Soclety Coordlnator.
The Charlty Commlsslon for England and Wales authorised the transfer of assets and Ilablllttes and
the gran￿n8 ol an Indemnlty under sectlon 105 of the Chadttes Art 20111 dated September 2022

Transferrlng of Investments from one of the above charities has just begun. The proce55 is belng
continued. We hope to complete the proce55 In the comlng months.
Poli¢ies
The CIO follows pollcles regarding staff, Tnjstees, financial controls, safeguarding, risk management
etc. Special attention has been given to cyber security risks and the prevention of online fraud. The
Investment Committee makes sure that the Investrnents are made according to ethical guidelines
developed by the Charity. The yearly risk assessment enabled the Charity to identify potential risks

and to charter steps to rnitlgate them. The Charivs internal financial contro15 are reviewed once a
year to ensure compliance with the legal requlrements relewant to the Charity.
Oblectlves
In planning and carylng out the actlvides of the Charity, the Trustees have had regard to the Charity
Commlsslon's guldance on Public Benefit Icharities ar￿ Public Benefit section 41. The oblect of the
Charity as described in the Trust Deed Is: "fvrsud7 chorftoble purposes which odvonce the rellglous
and other charitL7ble worksfvr the tlme being conled out by or under the dIreC￿On of the Society os
the Trustees Wlth the approvul of the Society Co-ordlnotorshollfrom tlme to tlme thlnkfit, to Include
{but not limited to) those which promote, protect or preseNe heolth." Its purpose Is the SUPPDrt of
the worldwide charitsble work of the Society as a religious order.
The Charity. at the service of sustslnlng the Ilfe and mIss￿n In the worldwlde Soclety. promotes
effe¢ttve responses to Changing needs for health and wellbeing among disadvantsged people and
encourages interartlon and sklll sharln8 between the Unlts Igovemmentsl entitie5 of the
Internatlonal 50¢ietyl. It also ensures the needed support for the training of new members as well
as supportfn8 the well-bein8 of its a8ing members Worldwide.
A¢thiltle5
Trustees and staff are heavlly engaged In the process of completlon of transferrlng funds, fulfllllng
other legal requirements: preparatlon for Charlttes to reglster as an employer wlth HMRC and
Penslon Regulalor, obtsiningTax Code for the Charlty, plannlng Insuran￿ coverage and maklng plans
to launch actlve fundraising.
The CIO will start employln8 Staff In October 2024 as a ￿gIstra￿On process wlth HMRC as an
employer had been ftnallsed.
After the MMS UK trustees and the SCMM CIO Trustees sl8ned a Grant Agreemeni for the MMS UK
Care fund, thls fund was transferred to the new SCMM CIO In December 2023. In February and
March 2024 two $1sters moved Snto resldentlal care located In Uxbridge and In Cardlff. The payment
for the monthlv care home costs were set up on the new SCMM CIO account. Slsters of our charity
vlslt the slsters lI￿ng In residential care frequentiy and Ilalse wlth the ca￿ Home stsff about our
slsters, dally and long-temi needs. We also set up LPAS ILasdn8 Power of Attorney) for health and
wellbeln8 for all the elderly si5ter5.
Revlew of the Transactlons and Flnanclal Posltlon of the Ch•ritv
The Charfty's totsl Incoming ￿soUrCeS received durin8 the year was In the form of donailons from
The Society of Catholic Medical Mission 5i5ters USA of £39.370. As well as a donabon from Medlcal
Mlssionaries UK for £297,878. There was also expenditure of £26,543 durlng the year.
Reserves poli¢y
The Tru5tee5 reviewed the Chorlvs need for reserves in line wlth the guidellnes issued by the Chartty
Commissioner. The Trustee5 are of the opinion that reserves should provide sufficient flexibility to
cover temporary 5hortfa115 In Income to cope with and to respond to unforeseen emergencles. The
Trustee5 regularly review the ￿serveS policy.
The Charlty's balance sheet shows totsl funds of £331.850.
Key Managernent Remuneratlon
Key managernenL who are the Charitys Trustee5. give their time freely and no remuneration was
paid to Trustees In the year.
