## **Trustees Report from Mike Cox, Chair of Trustees** On behalf of the Trustees I’d like to recognise all that Somer Valley Tennis Club has achieved over the last year. We are considered a small community club. Whilst we don’t have our own clubhouse and own courts what we do have is a great number of members willing to give up their time to volunteer for the club, we have ambition and creativity, and we are well known for our warm welcome and inclusiveness. On behalf of the trustees I would like to formally thank everybody who makes this club the great club that it is. In particular the trustees would like to give a special thanks to the whole Committee for their input and we recognise the many hours they & other volunteers dedicate to our club. ## **2024/25 Achievements** 1. We held our 15th annual club champs event, an inclusive event for all members with a wide range of events to showcase the tennis talent at SVT. 2. Club members Neil Scott (Bernard Pendle Club Member of the Year) and Marc Jabbitt (Stonier Hobbs Volunteer of the Year) were recognised by the club membership for their contribution and hard work in 2024 3. We continue to support our affiliated village venues during 2024 however these venues will be splitting from SVT in 2025. 4. We have increased our membership over the course of the year to 104 members 5. We held a number of social events including our first Christmas Quiz night with over 25 members attending 6. Female members of the club starred in our first club film showcasing how SVT has encouraged local women and girls to try tennis for the first time 7. We introduced the Rusty Racqueteers session to bring people back to playing tennis, and have managed to keep this going despite the challenges of organising a regular slot with Dragonfly Leisure Centre 8. We hosted JorDan Sports for tennis racket demonstrations 9. We hosted the annual Wear it Pink tournament in aid of breast cancer and raised over £120 on the day, and the event was published in the Mendip Times 10. Alan Gammon has been awarded Avon Tennis’ “Unsung Hero Award” for 2024 for his commitment and enthusiasm toward the club 11. We continue to provide lots of opportunities for competitive tennis by - supporting: - a. Summer League 5 men’s and 4 ladies teams - b. Late Summer 1 mixed team and 1 senior men’s team - c. Winter League 2 mixed teams - d. Mens and Ladies box leagues during the winter period ## **Growing the membership** We have continued to support activities such as Women and Girls funded tennis, and Rusty Raqueteers to provide pathways into playing tennis.
