The Mbabzi School Partnership Malawi, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)
Registration number: 1198935
Address: Walden Cottage, Bull Lane, Gerrards Cross, SL9 8RY
Trustees: Alexandra Claire Knapp, Suzanna Barron-Black, David Barron
Objectives and Activities: The object of the CIO is, for the public benefit, to advance the education of young people in the Mbabzi area of Malawi, Africa, in such ways as the charity trustees think fit, including by: a) Awarding to such persons scholarships tenable at any university, college or institution of higher or further education b) Improving the school facilities and infrastructure
In this reporting period (6th April 2023 to 5th April 2024), the charity is supporting 10 Malawian students in their secondary school education. All students performed well in their Standard 8 exams and were selected by the government to have a place at a Community Day Secondary School. However the families of the students are unable to afford the school fees.
The first three students finished Term 3 of the 2022-2023 academic year, and we welcomed an additional 7 in September 2023, where we have paid for schooling for both Term 1 and Term 2, with the Term 3 costs going out shortly after this financial reporting period.
The scholarships we provide are so much more than the school fees. We ensure each student has everything they need to thrive, by providing a school uniform, school books and stationery, accommodation close to the school, food for term time, tutoring during the school holidays, and sanitary provisions for the girls.
Financial Review: Income for the accounting period (6th April 2023 to 6th April 2024) was £10,435. The income was gained from three streams - a corporate donation (£4,800), fundraising (£5,151) and Gift Aid (£485).
